The Startup Founder's Guide to Fundraising...

There comes a time between points A and B of building a business when money makes the difference. Whether that point is an initial seed raise to jump start an idea or a series A round to grow to the next level, timing differs depending on your business. No matter what, every entrepreneur will tell you that securing investors is no walk in the park.

Which is why this resource is not the do’s and don’ts you might find in a textbook. Instead, this eBook aims to arm today’s entrepreneurs with experience and anecdotal guidance from our network of Startup Founders mixed with advice from your compliance-focused allies (accountants, tax experts, and lawyers).

Discovery Business Klinik - DBK Masterclass with Haaris D. Saad, Founder DISRUPTORS Sanctuary...

It is said that it is easier to get into Harvard than it is to win the TEF - TEEP $5000 Grant, with a success rate of 0.83% while Harvard's success rate is put at 5.9%. After its application drive for 2021 which estimates that over 500, 000 applications were received, there are currently about 50, 000 under going training in all the three categories combined (Startup, Innovator, Disruptor). Which means only roughly 10% made it to the training and coaching phase.

Views from TEF alumni shows that one of the biggest reasons why so many TEF-TEEP trainees, with promising business ideas or businesses, never get win the TEF grant is nothing more than adhering to simple TEF-TEEP instructions and participation rules. Now, with new rules and format, a lot of entrepreneurs have reached out to our chapter to organize this Master class.

In conforming with TEF-TEEP's own guidance to engage and interact based on six pillars, that can be found in its training guide for the 2021 cohort -

1. Advise one another

2. Counsel and guide another

3. Learn from another

4. Motivate and encourage one another.

5. Support one another.

6. Challenge one another.

If you feel this is for you, then hurry up and signup for this Masterclass. It promises to be very informative and engaging.

THE STORY OF SHINA PETERS & JIM OVIA

In 1990, Shina Peters built a house worth N20 million naira. The same year, Jim Ovia started Zenith Bank with the same amount.
Today, you and I don't have a room in Shina's house but I have an account in Jim's bank and probably you do too.

Shina's house was built in Iju Lagos and remains there till date.
Jim's bank started in a corner and now has over 500 branches in Nigeria, and many international branches. Millions upon millions transact business in Jim's bank daily.

Shina's house is becoming dilapidated by the day and spends more money to renovate the house. He bought an additional Nissan Pathfinder with N10 million (additional liability you may wish to call it) while in the same 2015, Jim's bank made a whopping N105.7b profit. Zenith bank employs tens thousands, and feeds their families.

This is the difference between Assets and Liability...

If you buy a car for N20 million today, in 10 years time, you will be ashamed to drive it. On the other hand, if you invest that same amount in a viable Startup or in an asset, It may be worth billions years from now.

Jim Ovia is now worth $980 million dollars, with the official dollar rate of N320, that means he is worth N313 BILLION NAIRA because of an investment of N20 million).

Spend the little money you have today wisely. Some people driving expensive cars today, are not aware that they are driving their future and the future of their children. Some people carrying iphone7 today, may not be aware that they are carrying their future. When you are young, don't spend money. Invest it.
Every penny in your hand is like a seed, you can decide to eat it, or sow it. When you sow it, it will bear much more seeds later in future.

Let's be smart.
