There was a time I wanted to market my skills to someone I believed could help me with investment.
But at that time, I didn't understand the power of looking good, smelling good, and being intentional about my appearance. I would literally wear whatever I could find. No intentionality about my looks, no makeup, nothing. 😂
So, I went to this man's office to pitch my skills.
He looked at me and said, “You don't look like someone who can deliver this kind of skill.”
I was shocked! 😳
I remember wondering, How can my appearance determine whether I can deliver or not when you haven't even tested my skills?
But that day taught me a very hard lesson.
Whether we like it or not, people form opinions about us before we get the opportunity to prove ourselves.
It doesn't mean you have to wear expensive clothes, carry designer bags, or wear makeup every day.
But looking neat, presentable, smelling good, and being intentional about your appearance can influence how people perceive you especially when you're trying to sell yourself, your skills, or your business.
Your skill is important, but don't let your appearance make people doubt your ability before they even give you a chance.
