EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN BWARI AREA COUNCIL, ATTENDS KARU CHIEFDOM 7TH ANNUAL CULTURAL FESTIVAL IN KARU, ABUJA.
The Executive Chairman Bwari Area Council, Hon (Dr) John Shekwogaza Gabaya yesterday the 2nd day of January 2023 attended the 7th Annual Cultural Festival of Karu Chiefdom in Karu, Abuja.
He was accompanied to the occasion by some of His aides.
The occasion is an annual event organised by the Gbagyi native of Karu Chiefdom in the FCT during which the rich cultural heritage of the Gbagyis is showcased.
The annual event which is held on the second day of January each year featured various cultural displays such as dance, music and other interesting cultural performance thrilling guest and spectators who graced the event.
The event organized by Karu Chiefdom Development Association, was aimed at preserving the culture of the Gbagyi people who are among the nine ethnic groups that are indigenous to the FCT.
Executive Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon (Dr) John Shekwogaza Gabaya, who was the Chairman of the occasion, said the FCT natives can only be identified by their culture and traditions.
He said the cultural festival was an avenue for unity, adding that it was a sign that the Gbagyi native of the FCT have been living peacefully among themselves and with other ethnic groups in the Federal Capital Territory.
āThere are a lot of people that dwell among us who have forgotten what the Gbagyi culture is. So we are remembering our history and we are telling other people out there that we are really indigenous people of the FCT who respect culture and value peaceful co-existence,ā he said.
DR Gabaya stressed the need for Gbagyi native to always demonstrate their culture, saying they will only be deceiving themselves when they keep pretending and borrowing other Ethnicā Cultures.
The Chairman appreciated the SaāKaruyi of Karu, His Royal Highness (HRH) Dr Emmanuel Kyauta Yepwyi, and members of his traditional council for promoting peace across the council, and urged him to keep it up.
On his part, the SaāKaruyi of Karu Chiefdom, DR Yepwi, expressed happiness over the event and called on his subjects, to be good Ambassadors wherever they find themselves.
