Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu is a multi-award-wining media and communications expert who studied Mass Communication at BA, MA and PhD levels. He has almost a couple of decades of accumulated professional experience in university lecturing, journalism practice and public relations expertise at local, national and international settings.

Dr. Gwandu was a university lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication in Bayero University, Kano for over nine years and subsequently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto from where he got leave of absence to serve as the Public Relations Coordinator at the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), in Vienna. He authored books journal articles, book chapters and contributed to editing of books and journals.

As the Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Media and Public Relations, Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (2019 to 2023) with the support from developmental partners and relevant stakeholders, Dr. Gwandu coordinated the Nigeria’s hosting of policy dialogues in commemoration of the 2021 and 2022 International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.

Dr Suleiman A. Suleiman has nearly 20 years’ combined experience in academia, professional journalism practice, and international development. He was most recently Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Daily Trust newspaper, Abuja, and remains a widely read columnist with the paper.

He was previously Assistant Professor in Journalism and Public Policy at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, and DFID Research Fellow in Anti-Corruption Policy at the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Abuja.

He holds a PhD (Politics) from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, and Advanced Certificate Course in Public Policy Analysis from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), London, UK.

Stephanie Onyeshi Adams-Douglas is a Nigerian media and development consultant with years of experience advancing media freedom, human rights, information integrity, and democratic governance across West Africa. She has collaborated with local and international partners to strengthen press freedom, promote transparency, and build credible information ecosystems in politically complex and conflict-affected contexts.

Stephanie is Fellow of Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism – Female Reporters Leadership Programme and a Fact-Checking Fellow under Dubawa’s Kwame Karikari Fellowship, Stephanie has led and supported several initiatives that enhance information integrity while prioritising security and stability, the safety, resilience, and mental well-being of journalists across the region.

With a strong background in project management, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, media innovation, and data-driven storytelling, she brings a grounded yet strategic voice to global conversations on safeguarding the information environment. Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree in English and literary studies from Nasarawa State University. Our Keynote Speaker is Professor Yemi Akinseye George, SAN.

He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) with
extensive experience in justice sector reform, having served as a Special Adviser to the Attorney-General of Nigeria from 2003-2007. During this tenure, he played a pivotal role in guiding the Nigerian Justice Reform agenda. Over the past two decades, Professor Akinseye has made significant contributions to the development of the Administration of Criminal Justice Legislation at the federal level and in several states, including Lagos, Anambra, Kaduna, Plateau, and Ondo. His work also extends to building the capacity of Magistrates, Judges, and other court personnel across Nigeria.

Prior to his engagement in substantive justice sector reform, Professor Yemi Akinseye George was a lecturer and professor at various universities in Nigeria and a fellow at
the Davis Center, Princeton University, NJ, USA. He served as a state counsel at the
Lagos State Ministry of Justice and has collaborated with international bodies such as
the EU (through UNODC) and the British Council, contributing to justice reform efforts within the Federal Ministry of Justice. As an active advocate for continuous reform, Professor Akinseye maintains close working relationships with the National Judicial Council, the Judiciary, and the Federal Ministry.

Yushau Shuaibu is a Public Relations Guru having received prestigious awards like the PR Man of the Year Award and the NIPR Presidential Award. He is renowned Nigerian writer, public relations practitioner, and public affairs commentator. He's had an incredible career, publishing over 300 articles in various national dailies .

A graduate of Mass-Communication from Bayero University Kano, Shuaibu holds a master's degree in Public Relations from the University of Westminster, London. Meet our Special Guest of Honour.

Kamarudeen Ogundele is a key figure in Nigeria's media, legal and governmental circles.

With over two decades practice in journalism, he has worked in some reputable media houses in Nigeria including the defunct Comet Newspaper, The Nation, Punch and Daily Trust where he served in various capacities.

Before venturing into journalism, he had been a teacher, administrator and laboratory technologist. He has experiences in diverse fields which he has brought to bear on his work as a journalist and has traversed all the fields in journalism as a reporter.

Ogundele has his marks with insightful writings, shedding light on crucial national issues.

He is currently serving as the Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Communication and Publicity working closely with the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.

He was until his current appointment the Group News Editor of Daily Trust.

Ogundele releases official statements on behalf of the Office of the AGF, ensuring transparency and clarity on legal matters.
