On the days when Rabi Ibrahim’s husband was unable to provide money for water, she would go to her neighbors' homes to request for water, occasionally resulting in insults and embarrassment.
This is because of the scarcity of water in Dikumari community, Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe state.
She said, “I used to spend two hundred naira a day on water. Water is scarce in this entire community, and as a result, only the wealthy can afford to buy on a daily basis”.
Rabi bore the embarrassment and difficulty until Dikumari was chosen for the construction of a water facility by the USAID/Nigeria funded Small Town WASH Activity.
Her husband connected water from the borehole to their home via an underground pipe which has saved them money, brought relief and helped restored their dignity.
