💡 Did you notice a little extra deduction on your bank transactions? Here’s why!
Starting on Monday, January 19, 2026, Nigerian banks will now collect 7.5% VAT on some bank service charges.
Don’t worry, this is NOT on the money you send or receive. It’s only on the fees the bank charges for services like:
Mobile or USSD transfers (*737 #, *919 #)
POS transactions
ATM service fees (where applicable)
Card issuance or replacement
Quick Example:
If your bank charges ₦100 to send money, VAT adds only ₦7.50.
Bank fee: ₦100
VAT: ₦7.50
Total: ₦107.50
✅ The person you send money to still gets the full amount!
Why this matters: The government is standardising tax collection to keep everything clear and fair as digital banking grows.
