It’s important to understand how our mind and emotions work. A cause and condition of anger is fear. Once it has erupted anger can lead to hatred, so we have to tackle it early. Anger tends to arise spontaneously, but we can develop compassion through training. Anger might bring energy, but the problem is that it’s blind. We observe physical hygiene to maintain our health, what we also need is emotional hygiene.

If we make an effort we can change the world. Those who are still young can make a difference and shape a better future. For my part, I try to encourage interest in inner values and I believe that if I influence ten people and each of them does the same, we’ve reached one hundred. And so it goes on. This is the way to educate people.

Compassion enhances our inner strength, reduces fear and causes friends to gather round us. As social animals we need friends and what attracts them is trust. And trust grows when we show real concern for others' well-being.

If something is worth doing, do it. If, in fact, you fail, there’ll be no cause for regret. You can try again. To die without even having tried, will be to die disappointed. We all have opportunities to contribute making a better world; we must seize them with far-sighted vision. I’m encouraged that so many people are becoming interested in the well-being of humanity. This is surely a sign of hope.

The only thing that will bring happiness is affection and warmheartedness. This really brings inner strength and self-confidence, reduces fear, develops trust, and trust brings friendship. We are social animals, and cooperation is necessary for our survival, but cooperation is entirely based on trust. When there is trust, people are brought together—whole nations are brought together.

You measure a man's strength, worth or value, not by his friends, but by the power of his adversaries. You measure a man's greatness or influence, by the number or power of his enemies. As long as you 're successful, your detractors will have you in focus. Once you are no longer as radiant or as successful as they think, they wouldn't care.
