You have created a brilliant startup. Now sell your startup to just about anyone with these tips.
We are rooting for you.
1. Tell your story
You have done all the assignments required of you, now it is time to communicate your dream in a way that is personalized to you. And away from the tech and business ‘jargons’ you have employed in your pitch deck. Remember that your story is one thing that remains unique to you. Use it.
2. Choose the right audience.
It is important to choose your audience carefully. During a VC pitch or just a regular pitch. You already know your target audience, find out the people your startup resonates with, and where they can be found. Go there.
3. Have a simple yet incisive pitch.
Nobody wants to be bored with all that complexity. Communicate in plain English. You want anyone to be able to understand your startup whether they are in the field or not.
4. Set strict timelines.
This way you can be sure to not go overboard at the expense of someone else’s time. Stick to the timelines but if they ask for more information then by all means exceed the timeline.
5. Remember it is still about the funding. That is the crux of your pitch. Make sure to show your startup trajectory. Use Infographics to show your margins so far and projected margins. This way your investor is convinced you have done the work and you know exactly what you are on about. And he better understands how viable a business your startup is.
6. Be courageous. If you don’t believe in your startup, it will shine through more than you can know. The best way to build courage is in knowing your business exceedingly well. Spend time in your research.
Then trust your startup to solve the problem you already identified. If you don’t believe enough, an investor simply will not. Find the courage to believe in your startup so you can be convincing too.
7. Conclude
Find a simple yet compelling way to end your pitch, both in the elevator, at the bar, or before a VC. If possible, in line with your opening.
There you have it.
We will bring more tips soon but try these and don’t forget to share your success story with us.
Good luck.
