: An amazing interview I can finally share with you on Sasai!
__“Seek to find what is common amongst us rather than exploiting what is different”… Bishop T.D. Jakes
“How do we take the technology that we have created and use it for the good rather than allowing that technology to minimize humanity, social skills, communication skills, interacting with people…?”
This was one of the big questions Bishop T.D. Jakes asked me a few years ago when I travelled to be interviewed by him at the Global Leadership Summit at Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago, one of the biggest churches in the USA. Now how cool?!
It was amazing to be interviewed by the great man himself, and to discuss with him. T.D. Jakes is not only a very successful pastor; he is also a film producer and an entrepreneur.
“You can’t build a business around a need,” he observed wisely, “if you don’t interact with people to FIND OUT what they really need".
__“If you don’t find out what they really need, you are trying to sell them what YOU like rather than what they need,” he said.
Of course, I shared with him my favorite quote from Pastor TL Osborn that you all know by now: "Success begins when you look out for a human need and reach out to meet that need"...
Much of the interview actually touched on entrepreneurship and he asked some really profound questions. In the course of the fireside chat, he told me about a conversation he’d had with Oprah where she advised him, “One of the biggest mistakes you can ever make, is to assume your customer is YOU!”
We had such a wonderful discussion that really touched on so many aspects of entrepreneurship and also faith, but even if you are not a Christian, if you’re an entrepreneur I know you will find it amazing, too.
“I seek to find what is common amongst us rather than exploiting what is different,” he explained. “Respecting our differences, but (also) building on our commonalities; there are so many things that we have in common”.

In closing I’m going to share one of the really tough questions T.D. Jakes asked me. I’d like to think that our Sasai app in a way is part of my answer (a few years later). He asked:
“Who with the craftsmanship and the artistry of speech is able to paint on the canvas of the imaginations of people, the possibilities of a better world?”
“We are LOSING that,” he exclaimed. “How do we get that back?!”
“Don’t you think it begins with conversation?” he asked me... “Don’t you think it begins with hearing people talk?”
