The word 'SELFIE' is now officially a dictionary word following its inclusion in Oxford Dictionaries as the 2013 Word of the Year.

This is because it was discovered that the usage of the word increased by 17,000% within the space of one year (October 2012 - October 2013).

Everyone takes selfies these days; movie/music stars, public figures, everyday people, priests and even Presidents!

Ellen DeGeneres for instance broke the twitter record in March 2014 with the tweet of the selfie featuring some Hollywood stars. In less than an hour, her photo had already been retweeted 871,000 times and favorited 210,000 times thus taking the title from President Obama's selfie with his wife on the election night victory which was retweeted 777,000 times!

So, we told you this whole story to inform you but also (and most importantly) to say that if we use the word 'selfie' in any of our client's brief, please indulge us and blame it on Oxford!
