USO Golden Resources is an entrepreneur-focused organization duly registered in Nigeria with a vision to providing a platform for the entrepreneurial development of Nigerian Youths. At a population growth rate of 2.6% per annum and a demographic structure that suggests that the youthfulness of the population remains vibrant, Nigeria prides herself as one of the luckiest countries in the world with
a large youthful population. Yet, while the average annual entrant into the labour force stands at 1.8 million (between 2006 and 2011), it is alarming to note that many of these youths spilled into the labour market never actually ‘buy’ any gainful employment in the market while those who succeed to get employed at all end up with a “take home” that never takes them home. There has been an unprecedented surge into unemployment in Nigeria compounded by the very celebrated global economic meltdown which left Nigeria’s economic life in need of repairs. A report released by BGL Research and Intelligence Bulletin (online resource) indicated that youth unemployment rate in Nigeria in 2011 stood at 46.5% and this has not changed today considering the spates of retrenchments, retirements without commensurate employments and graduation of our students in their millions from our higher institutions. The Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shocking figures of the rising profile of unemployment in Nigeria without any significant remedy in sight. It is noteworthy that the government has been making efforts towards arresting the unemployment and poverty trends in Nigeria. However, these efforts should be supported through a multi-sectoral approach. It is in this light that USO Golden Resources has taken it upon herself to undertake multi-layered programmes: events management, capacity building, skills acquisition programmes: towards fighting the unemployment and poverty scourges in Nigeria and in order to accelerate our achievement of the Millennium Development Goals on Poverty Alleviation, amongst other things.
