Chinua Achebe, one of Africa's most esteemed writers, once made an observation about the differences between monogamous and polygamous men:
"A monogamous man should avoid sitting near the drinking jar because if he hears that his wife has passed away while he is at the drinking joint, his immediate reaction might be to kick the drinking jar, ruining the mood for everyone. However, a polygamous man would take a moment to determine which of his wives had passed away.
"In terms of relationship advice, suggesting that men should embrace monogamy can be considered contrary to some perspectives that view it as going against a man's nature. Some argue that a monogamous man may feel constrained and less fulfilled, as a man is said to thrive when he can provide for, protect, solve problems for, and engage intimately with multiple women—what some refer to as the "4 Ps."
This line of thought suggests that a man's loyalty to a woman is not about sexual exclusivity but about fulfilling his 4 Ps duties. Critics of monogamy argue that it can lead to sexual frustration, which in turn may result in feelings of depression.
However, this viewpoint is not universally accepted, and many people find fulfillment and happiness in monogamous relationships.
