Be Part of Ekiti International Youth Day 2021

Since 2000, every year 12th August is observed as International Youth Day.

It is an awareness day which was started by the United Nations. The prime purpose of celebrating this day to highlight the importance of youths and various cultural and legal issues related with them.

International Youth Day celebrations include organization of rallies and programs to support development of youth across the globe.

On August 12th 2021 Ekiti State will be joining the Global Works in commemorating the celebration of year 2021 International Youth Day

The Roles of Youths in Achieving the SDGs

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, refer to the 17-point agenda of United Nations to recreate a world where the basic needs of the present generations are met without compromising the needs of the future generations

Nigeria is home to one of the largest populations of youths in the world today. The median age of Nigerians is 17.9 years. This means that most of the population are physically strong and mentally malleable, that is, open to new ideas, methods & processes.

The Nigerian youths can play a significant role in the implementation of the global goals, as leaders of tomorrow, it is pivotal that youths are informed & engaged with the global vision for the future.

Leaving young people out of development would be detrimental because, over the next 15 years, youths will not only experience the outcome (or lack of one) of SDGs but will also be the drivers for the successful implementation of the SDGs.

The idea for celebrating International youth day was proposed in 1991 by young people who were gathered in vienna, Austria, for the first session of the UN’s World Youth Forum.

In 1998 a resolution proclaiming August 12 as international Youth Day was adopted during the World Conference of Ministers Responsible For Youth. That recommendation was later endorsed by the UN General Assembly in 1999 and it was first observed in 2000.

During this day, across the world many activities & events take place in commemorating & celebrating the International youth Day which is aimed at promoting the benefits that young people bring to the world through their SDGs related community Impact Projects.

Since 2015 when the SDGs was adopted by World Leaders, Ekiti State has not key in to commemorating the IYD. However since 2019 till date Ekiti State shown the commitment towards celebrating young people in SDGs

International Youth Day 2021

Ekiti State SDGs will be joining the Global World in commemorating and celebrating the 2021 International Youth.

The United Nation’s (UN) International Youth Day
is celebrated on August 12 each year to recognize efforts of the world’s Youth in enhancing global society

The theme of International Youth Day 2021 is, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health” with the aim of highlighting that the success of such a global effort will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people.

Celebration of international Youth Day (IYD) gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement.

The commemoration across the world recognize the importance of youth participation in political, economic and social life and processes.
