The Battle We Missed

Papa Ajiik called his son to his bedside as the sun sank red and tired.

“My son,” he said, “you have seen me wear many party colours—green today, red tomorrow, back to green when it suited me. I changed parties, returned, left again. Sometimes I chased votes with promises, sometimes with money. Bribery. Handshakes for loyalty that never lasted.”

He sighed. “People thought I was clever. But survival is not the same as standing for something. The battles I fought between parties were many—but the real battle, the one I missed, was within me: fear, compromise, and the struggle to stand for what truly mattered.”
The old man closed his eyes. His son understood at last: the fiercest political opponent is not across the aisle—it is the weakness in your own heart.

🦅 The Eagle Will Fly Again 🦅

No matter the storms,
No matter the doubts,
The eagle never forgets how to soar.

Our Super Eagles have stumbled before,
But they will rise stronger,
They will spread their wings wider,
They will fly higher.

With unity, courage, and the spirit of Naija,
The eagle will fly again —
And victory will be ours! 🇳🇬⚽

Now Am Married

I had made history — finally having my wedding ceremony in the presence of just ten people. Not a crowd, not a multitude, but ten chosen souls who mattered most.

My father and mother stood proudly by my side, their eyes glistening with tears of joy. My bride’s parents sat across, their smiles carrying both relief and blessings.

A judge was there, pen in hand, ready to seal our union by law. Beside him, a pastor stood tall, ready to bless our vows in the name of God.

Two witnesses — lifelong friends who had walked with us through storms and sunshine — nodded with knowing smiles, their presence a testament of loyalty.

And then, it was just the two of us — bride and groom — making the circle complete: ten souls in history.

The bells rang softly. The vows were spoken. I looked into her eyes and whispered with trembling lips:
“Thank God… now am married. My dream has come true.”

The little gathering clapped, the pastor prayed, the judge signed, and joy flooded my heart like a river.

But slowly, the faces blurred. The voices grew distant. The ring on my finger began to fade.

I blinked — and awoke in my room. Alone. No judge. No pastor. No parents. No bride.

It was only a dream.

Yet it felt more real than life itself — a dream so vivid it left me with hope. And I knew within my heart: what the spirit has seen, the body will one day live.

Moral: The greatest dreams are not illusions, but whispers of tomorrow. Hold them tight — for one day, they shall become your history.

🌹 The Priceless Mother’s Love

I should have placed the flowers in her hands, not on her grave.
All the colorful wreaths and the songs at her burial, though beautiful, could never equal the simple joy she would have felt if I had remembered to give her those flowers while she was alive.

I remember her tired hands—hands that cooked for me even when they ached, hands that wiped my tears when the world was too heavy for me to bear. She gave and gave without asking for anything in return. Her joy was my joy, her pain hidden behind her quiet smile.

Yet, in my youth and busyness, I often disobeyed her instructions, brushed aside her words, and delayed the little gestures of gratitude that would have warmed her heart. I thought there would always be time—time to buy her flowers, time to say “thank you,” time to hold her close and tell her she was my treasure.

But time is a thief. When I finally stood before her, she could not see me. When I placed the flowers, she could not smell them. When I cried out my love, she could not hear me. No matter how befitting the burial was, it could never replace the tenderness I should have shown while she breathed.

Now I carry a heavy truth: a mother’s love is priceless, and once she is gone, it cannot be repaid.

Lesson: Do not wait for tomorrow to honor your mother. Love her loudly while she can still feel it, for no gift after her passing can compare to the simple joy of a flower placed in her living hands.

The Lion Also Fears

In the beginning, when the forest was still young, the lion was the proud ruler of all the beasts. His mane shone like fire, and his roar echoed across hills and valleys. Wherever he walked, the earth seemed to tremble. The gazelle fled, the zebra scattered, and even the elephant gave way when the lion passed.

Because of this, many animals believed the lion feared nothing under the sun. They whispered, “See how he walks as if he owns the world. Surely his heart knows no fear.”

But one day, under the shade of the great iroko tree, the wise tortoise gathered the animals and said,

> “Do not be deceived. The lion also fears. Even the strongest heart bows before something greater.”

The animals laughed at him. “Old man,” said the monkey, “your shell has made you slow. You speak only because you do not know the strength of the lion.”

The tortoise kept quiet, only smiling, for wisdom does not quarrel.

Not long after, men entered the forest. They came with fire, spears, and drums that thundered louder than any roar. The smoke rose high, and their songs filled the night. When the lion heard, his mighty chest grew heavy. He did not roar to shake the sky. He did not charge into the fire. Instead, he lowered himself into the tall grass and waited silently, his golden eyes watching every shadow.

The animals were shocked. “Why does the king hide?” the monkey asked.

The tortoise spoke again,

> “You see now with your own eyes. The lion also fears. But his fear is not weakness. It is wisdom. He knows that fire burns even the strongest skin, and the hunter’s spear pierces even the bravest heart. Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is walking wisely with it.”

From that night, the animals learned that every creature — no matter how strong — has something it fears. The river fears the sun that dries it, the sun fears the night that hides it, and the night fears the dawn that ends it
