A friend called me recently to seek my opinion on a new phone he wanted to get.
Well, it was an iPhone and I don't know much about it. So I had to talk to him about a particular Samsung phone because I've used it.
He also said to me that his friend is using the same phone. That was how he bought the Samsung phone.
Human beings will always seek for an evidence that something is valuable before putting their time and money into it. That's why Social Proof is an important factor in marketing.........
So what is Social Proof?
It’s simply the idea that people copy the actions of others in an attempt to get a certain result.
For example, when you're about to do something for the first time, you're wired to check out for people who have done the same thing and got results.
The most basic motivating force behind social proof is the bandwagon effect, a social psychology concept that states that people are more likely to engage in an action if other people are doing it.
So this also happen in marketing. When people shop or pay for a particular product, they look for reviews, recommendations and ways that others have used a product before making their decision.
Imagine visiting an online store to buy sneakers, you’ve found three that you love. They have nice and enticing pictures but one has over 100 reviews with an average rating of 4.5 stars. The second has 50 reviews and a 2 star rating and the third has no review.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking right now?
Yes, of course🙄
You and I will definitely choose to buy the first sneakers. It's a psychological thing. We always want the best.
Even when you go to all these movie sites to download movies, you will use the link with highest downloads because to you, it's the best that's why everyone is using it.
So when selling your product or service online, do not neglect the power of social proof. It will remove the objection "Are you sure this will work" from the mind of your potential customer.
Your social proof can come as testimonials, reviews, customer case studies or user generated content. So long as your product or service offers the value and solve the problem for your customers.
Social proof conveys trust and authority and increases sales conversion.
Have a great weekend friends
