UCTH ROLLS OUT BIOMETRIC CLOCK-IN/CLOCK-OUT SYSTEM: A NEW CHAPTER IN THE PROF. IKPEME LEGACY

Following the circular issued by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on 13th August, 2026, directing the implementation of a Biometric Clock-In/Clock-Out System under the National Policy on Work Hour Regulation for Health Institutions, the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) had commenced full rollout of the system on August 1, 2026.

Notably, while several institutions nationwide are yet to comply, the UCTH under the leadership of Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme , was among the few institutions who had already taken the lead , reflecting his passion for technology-driven systems and firm support for Federal Government policy.
This marks another milestone in the Prof. Ikpeme Legacy, reaffirming Management's commitment to repositioning UCTH in line with modern healthcare standards.

Management urges all staff to comply fully. Biometric clock-in and clock-out records will serve as the sole recognized evidence of staff attendance for all administrative purposes.

UCTH Stakeholders' Retreat: A New Chapter in Leadership, Engagement, and Transformation

The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has successfully concluded its 2nd Stakeholders' Retreat, held from August 13–15, 2026, at Watbridge Hotel, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The retreat marked a significant milestone as the first of its kind to be held outside Calabar.

The event brought together key stakeholders, top management officials, and distinguished resource persons, including Professor Bassey Esu of the University of Calabar and Professor Emem Abasi, Chief Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Both delivered insightful presentations on leadership, institutional growth, and healthcare development.

A major highlight of the retreat was a presentation by the Chief Medical Director, Professor Ikpeme A. Ikpeme, who provided a comprehensive review of the hospital's achievements from 2019 to date, alongside a clear outline of the institution's vision and strategic direction going forward.

Beyond the formal sessions, the retreat offered stakeholders a valuable opportunity to relax, reconnect, and strengthen professional relationships. Participants enjoyed special dinners and poolside activities that fostered a spirit of bonding and renewed commitment. According to attendees, a fully sponsored retreat of this scale, held outside Calabar, was unprecedented in the hospital's history, a gesture many described with appreciation.

Participants commended the Professor Ikpeme-led management for its dual investment: in the institution's growth and in the people driving that progress. The retreat, they noted, was more than a getaway; it was a clear statement of purposeful leadership, stakeholder inclusion, and renewed institutional confidence.

As participants returned to Calabar, they carried with them a sense of gratitude, renewed energy, and a shared determination to tackle the tasks ahead. Under the current administration, UCTH continues to reflect on its progress while boldly preparing for the future with the journey ahead expected to be even brighter.

We are pleased to inform the public that the family of the previously unidentified accident victim has been located, thanks to the overwhelming support and cooperation of the public.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who shared, commented on, and helped circulate our earlier notice. Your prompt response made it possible to reunite the patient with his loved ones within a short time, demonstrating the power of community and compassion.

We also acknowledge the concerns raised about the absence of the victim's photograph in our earlier notice. The patient sustained serious injuries, and out of respect for his dignity and wellbeing, we chose not to publish his image. We appreciate your understanding, as this decision was made solely in the patient's best interest.

ASSISTANCE REQUESTED IN IDENTIFYING AN UNCONSCIOUS ACCIDENT VICTIM.

The Management of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) wishes to inform the public of an unidentified adult male currently receiving treatment at the hospital following a road traffic accident.

The victim was involved in a road traffic accident near Flour Mill Road, Murtala Muhammed Highway, Calabar, on Saturday, 1st August 2026. He was initially taken to Navy Reference Hospital, where he received treatment and was later referred to UCTH for further medical care. He was brought in by the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident and remains unconscious, currently receiving treatment in the Emergency Unit.

The hospital Management earnestly appeals to members of the public who may be searching for a missing relative or acquaintance matching this description to contact the Emergency Unit at UCTH for possible identification.
