Do you know that Google once wanted to sell their product (search engine) for just $750,000?

Yet they were still rejected…

The CEO of Excite rejected it because the search engine was “too good.”
It would turn people’s attention away from their own site.

Can you imagine that?

You can have a 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 product, great skill, and still be 𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑑 and 𝑏𝑟𝑜𝑘𝑒.

You’re not the first… Google founders were in the same shoes.
Excellent product, yet no money was coming in.

Long story short, they invented AdWords the following year…
and hundreds of millions of dollars started pouring in.

Second story:

That Bubble Wrap used for protecting delicate products,
yes, that one you like bursting,

Do you know it was initially created to be a wallpaper? 🤣
It was soundly REJECTED by the market…

They then tried it as insulation for greenhouses… also rejected.

Until they finally tried using it to help IBM protect the packaging of their new computers.
And the rest is history…

So, if you’re not making enough money 𝑦𝑒𝑡 with your great skill or product, don’t give up.

You might need to REPURPOSE it for the right market.
Or…

You might need to invent your own “AdWords”—
something still 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 to your original skill or product,
but producing value for a 𝑑𝑖𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡 set of customers.

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 happened 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨 that really made me THINK HARD about 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 for more SALES👇🏾

So, I usually check my email from time to time to see if anyone has bought my book.

Because I like to personally thank them for buying.

But this time around, it wasn’t a completed purchase.

It was an 𝑎𝑏𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛… and it was from someone I know.

So, I quickly sent her a message on WhatsApp.

Me:
“Hello buddy, compliments of the season!
I just saw you checked my book out on the site… Were you trying to buy? Any challenge with that?”

Her:
“Yes, I was. Got distracted. Saw the follow-up mail too.”

Selar sends a follow-up email to people who abandon transactions.

But it’s ineffective.

It’s automated.
Generic.
Boring.

About 5 minutes after that short conversation, she bought the book.

What does this tell you?

Anything that has to do with online activity, ATTENTION is low, and DISTRACTION is high…

At every point in the audience journey, the number one enemy you must contend with is DISTRACTION.

You must fight to GRAB attention,
and also fight to KEEP it.

Else, you’ll lose BIG TIME online — especially in SALES.

We’re in the game of attention.

Those who master it WIN.
Those who don’t, LOSE.

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 showed that women 𝐇𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐟𝐬🧑‍🍳 😳 This POWERFUL lesson will teach YOU what to avoid when SELLING👇🏾

Several decades ago, different advertising experts wrote ads about kitchenwares and food…
and they used Chefs in the ads to signal 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲.

To their great surprise, the ads performed 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 😩

These ads were targeted at housewives.

The kitchen was their domain, source of 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 and control…

But the “chef” they used was typically a tall male, and it sent the wrong signals:

✅ “You don’t know how to cook properly… let the expert show you”

Condescending. Turned them off.

✅ “Not for everyday life”

Chefs signal something complicated…
Cookbooks, recipes, extra steps, and all.

Now here’s the real lesson:

When you want to sell, your buyer is silently asking:

“Does this feel like it’s for someone like me?”
“Will this make my life easier?”
“Will I succeed with it without feeling stupid?”

Authority is good to signal CREDIBILITY.

But authority that 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑠 is not authority… it’s 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

If you want conversions, don’t just prove you’re credible…

Prove your audience is 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

✅ Make the customer the hero.
✅ Make the expert the guide.
✅ Make the story 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.
✅ Make the outcome feel 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

Before your next post/ad, ask:

Am I writing to look smart… or to make them feel safe to act?

I ran into 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐘 problems with GTBank and Amazon. This is how they 𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 me.
Is it 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐑?👇🏾

So, on the 11th of November, I decided to buy some books from Amazon
(I couldn’t find them to buy in Nigeria 🥲)

After I finished the selection and wanted to pay, the order was bigger than the money in my GTBank which I use for such purchases

So, I had to cancel the order because I needed to send money to my GTBank

The next day, I was ready to buy, and I successfully did… I was debited

One week later, I received another huge debit again that sent my balance to -294,000 naira 😳

I wanted to faint… but I kept calm.
It must be a mistake.

I waited for the end of month so that GTBank would send their usual monthly statement.

When I checked, it was only one debited, and my balance was positive.

But the app was huge negative. 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑓𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠! 😰

I couldn’t use the app… 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑢𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒

I called GTBank… and spoke with a representative… they told me what to do, which did not work

Most of the time you call them, it will not go through.
Getting to really speak to them was by 𝑝𝑟𝑎𝑦𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑓𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑢𝑐𝑘 (see screenshot)

Finally, they directed me to Amazon. I contacted an Amazon representative…

As in, I had a live chat with a real human being… it took seconds to get connected to an associate (as they call it) and have a real conversation

Long story short, my issue was resolved, but it left a 𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 on me

❗️How can such a huge global company serving millions of customers daily be so rapidly accessible to give you 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍?

This has not only encouraged me to BUY from them AGAIN, but I’ve vowed to emulate them in how I conduct my own business

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐧𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 was making a 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 many people make, that’s why they’re NOT SELLING👇🏾

I love fried groundnuts a lot… I buy it frequently to just snack on.

So, I saw this particular woman selling fried groundnuts, but hers was unpeeled…

I never buy unpeeled ones. I hate having to peel the chaff myself. It just feels messy to me…

So, I asked her why she doesn’t have the peeled ones, at least for people like me that prefer that one…

She said the unpeeled one is more hygienic. That you don’t know how clean the person’s hand that’s peeling it is… blah blah.

So, she never peels it.

I told her that people like me don’t care. That it’s the peeled one I want, and that’s what I’ll always buy…

She kept arguing and defending her position.

I left her shaking my head.

Some of you are like that.

What you prefer and like is more important to you than what your customers prefer and like…

What customers WANT is what will make you money, not what you think they need.

I used to silently criticize people that own betting houses, especially 𝐴𝑘𝑖𝑛 𝐴𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑖 who was a pioneer of it in Nigeria.

But when I read his book, I understood better.

He saw that the market was 𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 such services, and he provided them what they craved for.

He became rich doing so.

You’re in a place where so many people WANT ci******es to smoke…

But because smoking is dangerous to health, you say you won’t sell ci******es.

Someone else will notice, sell it to them, and make plenty money doing so…

As long as it’s legal, better give them what they want, and make your money in peace…

Stop being overly self-righteous 😏

“You’re being MANIPULATIVE”: The brutal TRUTH about SALES nobody is willing to talk about… but I will👇🏾

As I was studying and meditating one day on sales strategies and techniques,

I said to myself,
“mehn, all these techniques look like manipulation ooh” 😂

And truly, if you’re a very good salesperson, you will be accused by jealous competitors as being manipulative

you cannot escape it…

Which means manipulators and genuine effective salespeople use the same techniques…

Both involve influencing another person to do what you want them to do… BUT

there’s a difference which most people often miss… I will tell you

But before then, the main difference between manipulators and genuine effective salespeople

Is the BENEFIT EQUATION

Is it balanced or heavily tilted in favor of the influencer?

A manipulator wants to benefit from you without giving you VALUE that is equal to what you give them

You buy a course for 75K, and you go through it, and nothing serious is inside,

It’s not even worth some of the free courses you’ve taken.
They LIED to you

Now, here’s how to defend yourself against manipulation

There are TWO very persuasive elements in a sales pitch

1. Credibility: “why should I listen to you?”
2. ⁠Proofs: “can you demonstrate this actually works?”

CREDIBILITY 👉🏾
• track record or experience,
• ⁠professional titles,
• ⁠roles
• Brand reputation⁠ etc

Can you verify any of it?
For manipulators, you cannot verify it.
They give you fake and vague facts that you cannot immediately check and verify

PROOF 👉🏾
• Case studies
• Testimonials
• Before-and-after results
• Data, numbers, and metrics etc

Again, ask yourself how easy is it for you to verify any of the claims?

And most important of all, a manipulator will never give you a STRONG guarantee…

“Money back guarantee”

How are you going to contact the person to collect your money back?

You can contact them and they’ll not answer you, and you cannot physically go to their office to challenge them…

Cos there’s no verifiable office anywhere

These are things you check…

This is what EVERY customer 𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑢𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑙𝑦 WANTS, but they don’t get it… Do it to 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐮𝐭 and SELL Out👇🏾

The world’s greatest [car] salesman made a statement that is very striking.
He said:

❗️“When you bought a car from me, you didn’t just get a car,
you got me.”

He went on to say:

❗️“I would break my back to service a customer,
and I would rather service a customer than sell another car.”

It didn’t take long before there was pandemonium outside his office,
so much that he started seeing people by appointment only…

And they didn’t mind waiting that long to see him,
because they knew they would be treated like ROYALTY…

This is what EVERY customer genuinely wants…
and very few people are willing to go that length to provide such royal service.

Those who do, get more customers than they can handle,
even if they don’t have the best product in the market.

was that he remembered when he was struggling and broke…

He literally prayed and prayed
just to have his first customer buy from him,
so that he could feed his family.

When his first customer finally bought,
he was filled with so much GRATITUDE.

He would not starve.

So, he literally saw his customers as people
who changed his life
and saved him from wretchedness…

That was the foundation of the immense VALUE and LOVE he had for them.

2003 was an election year in Nigeria, held in April.

That was also the year I finished secondary school. I was in boarding school…

so I hardly had exposure to television.

But the TV campaign song of James Ibori — the then Delta State Governor running for re-election —
has 𝑛𝑜𝑡 left my memory till date 🧠

I loved that song.

The Atikulate campaign song of the PDP in the 2019 Presidential elections was another one I loved a lot.

I’m sure you already know where I’m going…

Songs are a powerful tool of PERSUASION and LOYALTY…
if you 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 know how to use them.

Especially as jingles in advertising and inside retail stores.

Research shows it can BOOST SALES by as much as 37% in grocery stores when used strategically…
