18/03/2026
Based on current reports from March 2026, the security situation in the South East is seeing a notable shift. While major state capitals are reclaiming their economic rhythm, certain inter-state corridors remain high-risk due to both criminal activity and road safety hazards.
State-Specific Security Climate
Anambra: Governor Soludo recently noted that the state has dismantled over 60 criminal camps. While security has improved significantly in Awka and during festive periods, vigilance is still advised in border areas and previous hotspots.
Enugu: Generally considered one of the more stable states in the region, though specific bypasses and forest-fringed roads require caution.
Imo: Continues to be one of the more volatile areas. Coordination between security forces and non-state actors often leads to unpredictable skirmishes, particularly in rural local government areas.
Abia: A tale of two cities; while Umuahia remains largely open on Mondays, Aba still sees partial compliance with sit-at-home orders, which can lead to localized tensions.
Ebonyi: Currently reports the most consistent stability regarding social and economic activities, with a heavy and sustained security presence.
