ARRIVAL OF CHICKS
----On arrival of chicks, they should be unboxed, inspected one by one for defects
-----Weak, deformed chicks should be rejected
----The chicks should then be counted
----- Infectious Bronchitis vaccine can be given, this is done by dipping the beak of the chick individually to the vaccine already mixed with water before placing under heat in Chick's guard Chlorinated water shouldn't be used for vaccination
-----Pure water, bottle water contain chlorine and so can not be used. This is because chlorine reduces the effectiveness of vaccines
----If vaccine isn't available on chicks arrival, Get glucose and mix with their water.
This water containing glucose should be provided for about 2 hrs before feed. This will help to prevent dehydration
----If multivitamin is available
----- Mix glucose and multivitamin in their water on first day
-----Ensure they drink from the water, Then serve them feed.
------Adlibitum feed should be made available to furnish the nutritional needs of the birds
------It's very important that the temperature should be recorded at every hour. Put thermometer in the pen, and one suspended inside chicks guard. The reaction of chicks to heat should be monitored well
------- During the first 2 weeks
The pen should be heated to keep the chicks warm. This can be done through coal pot. Do not use wet charcoal that can cause smoke in the pen. Always monitor the coal pot, don't burn the pen.The reactions of the chicks will show if heat is sufficient or not.
------If heat is too much, they will avoid the heat source
------If heat is not sufficient, they ll huddle together
------But when they are evenly spread in the chicks guard, Then the heat is sufficient.
