​One evening, Ìjàpá (the tortoise) was lost in the deep, dark forest. He was grumbling, "I can't see anything! This darkness is too much!" 🌑💨
​Suddenly, a tiny Tànmọ́tànmọ́ (firefly) flew past him. 🕯️🐝
"Follow my light, Ìjàpá," the firefly whispered.
Ìjàpá laughed. "You are too small! How can your tiny light help me?"
​The firefly replied, "A small light is better than a big darkness. Just follow one step at a time." 🐾 Ìjàpá followed the tiny glow and eventually found his way back home.

🐢 Ìjàpá àti Ewé Ayọ̀ (Ìjàpá and the Leaf of Joy)

In the heart of the Yorùbá forest, there was a beautiful tree known as the Igi Ọgbọ́n (Tree of Wisdom). It was said that anyone who could speak to the tree in its native tongue would receive a golden leaf that brought success in everything they touched.
Ìjàpá (the tortoise) wanted that leaf! He walked up to the tree and shouted in English, "Give me a leaf!" The tree stayed silent. He tried again in broken Yorùbá, "Fún mi... leaf!" Still, nothing happened. 🤫
Just then, a young boy named Táyé walked up. He had spent time learning the culture and the deep melodies of the language. With a respectful bow, he said:
"Ebi ń pa mí, mo fẹ́ jẹ nínú ọgbọ́n rẹ, dákun fún mi ní ewé kan." 🍃
The tree rustled its branches with joy! 🌟 It dropped a golden leaf right into Táyé’s hands because he didn't just speak words; he spoke the soul of the language. Ìjàpá realized then that shortcuts don't work—to get the prize, you must learn the way.
