HOW TO START AND FINISH YOUR BOOK
One of the challenges that most authors have when writing is continuing their line of thought until the book is finished. The unfortunate thing about this challenge is that many have abandoned projects and that makes them unproductive.
The joy of every writer/author is to start a book and ensure they complete it before the pick up another task. If you find yourself in this situation, here are few steps that will help you:
1. Train yourself to finish a book when you start writing
The truth is nobody can help you more than you help yourself, and training yourself to complete a title before picking up another is paramount. Once you start writing a title, tell yourself that no matter what happens, you will not stop and start another one until you finish the one at hand.
2. Be accountable to someone
Accountability is key to productivity, and if you're going to sustain the inspiration that you have just gotten on the book you're writing at the moment, you need to find someone that you'll be accountable to. This person will monitor your writing and ensure that you don't stop until you finish. If it is possible, agree on a measure of fine that you will pay if you derail.
3. Don't start a book you don't have enough idea of
The concept of having a niche is very important. The truth is you feel better on a subject topic that you have an understanding on. If for any reason you have to write on a topic or a field that you know little or nothing about, you need to do your research very well and get enough facts before you commence writing. The more the fact and information you have at hand, the easier it becomes for you to write.
4. Prepare a book plan before you start writing
A book plan gives details of what you want to write about. It contains not just the title of the book but also the chapter titles and what you intend discussing in each chapter. Once your book plan is ready, you have half finished the book you want to write because all you need to do is develop the points that you have highlighted you will be discussing in the book.
5. Don't force yourself to write
Once you get to a level where you are struggling to write, take a break. You may go for a walk or do something you like just to rejuvenate. You will discover that by the time you resume, you'd have gathered the motivation to write on.
If you can follow the steps discussed above, you should not find it difficult completing a title you start.
