I saw this photo on the internet and it made me laugh. So, I decided to share.

It is funny how you are just one month into your medical program, and your relatives back home begin to consult you regarding their medical ailments.

Then, you ask yourself how much you know, considering that you have spent just 1 month into your 4 or 5 years of medical schooling.

Resist the urge to impress them. Even when they try to hype you by saying that you're a doctor with a difference. Reply them and say that although you do not deny that fact, the DIFFERENCE is that you just started medical school and know nothing.

Reminds me of a hilarious story that one of our consultants told us in class.

He had just spent the first year at medical school and returned home for the Christmas holidays. His Mum's friend was in labour and his Mum called him to go check on her. Possibly to deliver the baby, I don't know. My Consultant said he took his thermometer with him, because he didn't know what else to do.

The class burst out laughing that day.

STORY TIME 2

How it all began....

This was me years ago. It was my first week of medical school, and I had just ended an anatomy class when I decided to take this picture.

Coming from a country where you'd have as many as 300 students crowded in one classroom, with some having to stand all through the lecture series, you can imagine my shock and surprise when I was ushered into a spacious class room with a chair (just like the one you see in the picture) to sit on comfortably. I didn't have to strain my ears to listen to the Professor talking. He had his computer in front of him. There was a projector to project the content of his lecture, from his laptop onto a bigger screen. Each student had a laptop with the same lecture slides because the lecturer had forwarded the slides to the class the previous day. Plus, the classroom had an air conditioning unit working effectively.

For the next two years, and before I was to start the clinical rotations at the hospital, this was my lot. I didn't have to worry about coming to school early to find a chair to sit for the day's lectures. 😅 . There was always enough for everyone.

Another fascinating thing about my university was that students had access to free lunch. All I needed to do was obtain my meal ticket from the Secretary's office and head to the university's canteen during the lunch break.

At this point, I never regretted the decision to leave my home country to school abroad. The experience is better felt than said. It was worth every foreign currency spent.

Let no one deceive you, so many opportunities await you out there.

Learn to get comfortable in leaving your comfort zone. Trust me when I say that the transition is almost seamless.

I have gone ahead so that the path will be easier for you coming behind me.

October is the month that has been set aside for breast cancer awareness.

Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common type of cancer worldwide.

It is good to know that breast cancer mortality has experienced a steady decline in the past decade as a result of factors like early detection, good approach to treatment and better understanding of the disease.

There are symptoms of breast cancer you should familiarize yourself with. Also bear in mind that breast cancer, though not in all cases, can be hereditary. If you have a family history of cancer especially in your first degree relatives (sister, mother, aunty), you will do well to go for early screening depending on the age of presentation of that relative.

Symptoms of breast cancer include:

📍 breast lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissues of the breast
📍pain in the armpit or the breast itself, this pain does not change with the monthly cycle
📍discharge from the ni**le that looks bloody
📍pitting or redness of the skin of the breast, resembling that of the surface of an orange
📍changes in breast size, shape, or appearance of the breast

Remember to always practice routine exams, be aware of your risk and your family history, schedule regular visits to your physician, know when to get a mammogram (at 40 urs, and earlier for those who have family histories).

Note that it is not every lump on the breast that is cancerous. But you need to check with your doctor to be sure the lump is benign.

Stay healthy and positive.

We have adopted a new name!

It was expedient to do so following series of multiple reviews.

We decided to choose a name that serves the purpose of the brand. In other words, a name that describes what the brand stands for.
This warranted us to undergo the CAC registration of business name, the second time.

Please feel free to do business with us.

Meanwhile we are enrolling students into medicine and nursing in the forthcoming January, 2022 semester.
