Topic: Biblical Literacy part 1

Bible Text: Matthew 4:5-7
“Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God”.
It is high time believers should be well versed the bible, because our enemy, the devil is a bible scholar. The devil was quoting the scripture to Jesus during the temptation.
I will like to start with sense of humour. A police inspector went to visit a primary school, where he was asked to take a Scripture class. He began by asking, ‘who knocked down the walls of Jericho?’
There was a long silence as the children moved nervously on their seats. Eventually, a little boy put up his hand and said, ‘please sir, my name is Kemi James. I don’t know who did it but it wasn’t me.’
The policeman was not satisfied with the reply, so he reported the incident to the headmaster. After a pause the headmaster replied, ‘I know Kemi James; she is an honest girl. If she said she didn’t do it, then she didn’t.’
The inspector was exasperated. The headmaster was either rude or very ignorant. The inspector wrote to the Department of Education to complain, and received this response: ‘Dear Sir, We are sorry to hear about the walls of Jericho and that nobody has admitted causing the damage. If you send us an estimate, we will see what we can do about the cost.’ The story is probably not true, but it does make a point.
A large proportion of children went to Sunday school, and the rest still received grounding in the main stories of the Bible in Class. But those days are gone.
I mentioned the prodigal son to a university student recently. He looked blankly at me. The average Christian is almost completely ignorant of the contents of the Bible. It remains the world’s best-selling book; one and a quarter million copies are sold in the UK alone every year.
But although many have a copy on their shelves, very few ever read it.
Prayers:
1 Father Lord, renew your spirit within me. Let the spirit of comforter teach me your word.
2 Father, Lord, let me always hear your voice behind me, teaching me what
to do and say par time.

(Six Blessings For God’s Lover.)
Bible Text: Psalm 91:14-15
“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation”.
In biblical numerology, six means rest. Just like God gave Solomon all-round rest when he got to the throne. He doesn’t lift a finger to fight war like his father, David did. Very unusual, am starting with prayer! God will grant you rest in all-your endeavor.
In this part nine, I will be talking on “Six Blessings For God’s Lover”. Because you have set your love upon God: And call Him.
Folks the calling is very important. Cos, the power of life and death lies on your tongue.
“He shall call upon Me”, and I will answer him: God promises to answer the prayer of the one who loves Him, and the one who genuinely knows Him. I will be with him: In the last lines of the psalm, God spoke personal and wonderful blessings over the one who loves and knows Him:
• The blessing of promise: I will answer him
• The blessing of His presence: I will be with him in trouble.
• The blessing of His protection: I will deliver him.
• The blessing of His promotion: I will…honor him.
• The blessing of His prosperity: With long life I will satisfy him.
• The blessing of His preservation: And show him My salvation.
Note: Remember in our previous series we refer the angels to be nurse, whom God gives charge to keep us in all our ways.
I will be with him in trouble. Again God speaks and acts like a tender hearted mother towards a sickly child. When the child is in perfect health she can leave it in the hands of the nurse; but when it is sick she will attend it herself; she will say to the nurse, "You may attend a while to some other business, I will watch over the child myself." She hears the slightest moan; she flies to the cradle; she takes it in her arms; she kisses its lips.
“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him”. He will have need to pray, he will be led to pray aright and the answer shall surely come. Saints, you are first called of God and then you have to call upon God.
Such calls like the psalmist always obtain answers. Not without prayer will the blessing come to the most favoured, but by means of prayer they shall receive all good things.
I will be with him in trouble, or "I am with him in trouble." Heirs of heaven are conscious of a special divine presence in times of severe trial. God is always near in sympathy and in power to help his tried ones. God will deliver you, and honour you. The man honours God, and God honours him. Believers are not delivered or preserved in a way which lowers them, and makes them feel themselves degraded; far from it, the Lord's salvation bestows honour upon those it delivers. God first gives us conquering grace, and then rewards us for it.
“With long life will I satisfy him”. The man described in this Psalm fills out the measure of his days. You will fill out the measure of your days and fulfill destiny.
Prayers:
1 Father Lord, I call upon you, deliver me and my family from danger, in Jesus name.
2 Father, Lord, satisfy myself and family with long life in the knowledge of your word, in Jesus name.
3 Father, Lord, make me and my family a recipient of your honour wherever we step, in Jesus name.

(God’s Blessing Over The One Who Love Him.)
Bible Text: Psalm 91:14
“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name”.
In this part eight, I will be talking on “God’s Blessing over the One Who Love Him”. Because he has set his love upon Me: These two phrase are set in the first person as God speaks promise and blessing over His people. He speaks specifically over those who set their love upon Him. It has been wonderfully noted that the last words of this psalm are not spoken by God’s people, but to you God’s people.
“He has set his love upon Me”: This “…is used elsewhere in contexts of setting one’s heart on somebody or on some enterprise. As man’s commitment to God it comes only here.”
How do we set our love upon God? We do this by:
• Spending time with God. Even, for such a time as this in the world battled with pandemic.
• Listening to God.
• Reading what God has written to us.
• Speaking to God.
• Thinking of God in unoccupied moments.
• Adoring God.
• Speaking of God to others.
• Giving to God and making glad sacrifices to Him and for Him.
Like the Titanic love, our present culture often thinks of love as something that happens to people, not something chosen. The phrase because he has set his love on Me reminds me that a significant aspect of love is indeed a choice. “Therefore I will deliver Him”: The promises and principles stated previously in this psalm are repeated again, but this time from the perspective of God Himself. God will protect you as His beloved and set you on high – and do it because you have known His name, and having a real relationship with God.
“I will set him on high”: “God will place you and your family out of the reach of all your enemies. He will honour and ennoble you, because you set your love on Him.

Prayers:
1. Father Lord, because I am called by your name and known your named, deliver me from my foes as you have promised, in Jesus name.
2. Father, Lord, lift me up and make me dine with kings, in Jesus name.
