God spoke these words to exiles who kept looking back. Some looked back at their failures and felt condemned. Others looked back at the Exodus and assumed God’s greatest work was behind Him. Both groups were stuck. God’s instruction was simple: stop living in the past.

This does not mean pretending the past never happened. Scripture often tells us to remember God’s faithfulness. What God forbids is letting yesterday set the limits for tomorrow. An old disappointment should not decide what you expect of God now, and neither should an old success.

As we enter the last quarter, take stock of what you are still carrying from earlier in the year. It might be a wrong done to you in March, a loss in June or a mistake in August. Bring it to God, receive His grace, and set it down. The road ahead needs both hands free.

PRAYER
Gracious Heavenly Father, I bring You the things from this year that still weigh on me. Heal what hurts, forgive what was wrong, and free me from what keeps me looking back. I will not let yesterday limit what I expect from You today. In Jesus’ name! Hallelujah! Amen!

The reason he presses on is striking. He wants to lay hold of the thing “for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” Before Paul ever reached for Christ, Christ had already reached for him on the Damascus road. Our pressing is a response to His grip, not an attempt to earn it.

That changes how we face the end of the year. If your progress in 2026 has been slower than you hoped, you are not disqualified. Christ took hold of you for a purpose, and He has not let go. You are not yet perfected, and that is exactly why you keep pressing on.

PRAYER
> Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ You laid hold of me before I ever reached for You. Where I feel far behind, remind me that Your grip is firmer than my progress. I am not yet what I will be, but I press on to take hold of all You intended for me. In Jesus’ name! Hallelujah! Amen!

Reaching for the Prize

What is the prize? Paul calls it “the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” It is not a promotion, a house or a title, though God may give us such things along the way. It is the full reward of belonging to Christ, of being called upward into His likeness and His presence. That prize does not fade when the year ends.

Many of us will spend the coming weeks reaching for things that matter: exams, contracts, harvests, family needs. There is nothing wrong with that. But this quarter asks a deeper question: underneath all the other reaching, are we reaching for Him? When Christ is the prize, every lesser goal falls into its proper place.

PRAYER
Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me upward in Christ Jesus. Keep me from spending my strength on prizes that fade. Let every goal I pursue this quarter sit beneath the one prize that lasts. I reach for the upward call, and I will not settle for less. In Jesus’ name! Hallelujah! Amen!

One Thing I Do

Nine months ago we opened this year with these words, and we open the final quarter with them again. Paul had planted churches, written letters and suffered for Christ, yet he refused to treat any of it as arrival. “I do not count myself to have apprehended.” The most mature believer in the room was the one most aware that there was further to go.

Notice how narrow his focus is: “one thing I do.” Paul had many responsibilities, but one direction governed them all. The last three months of a year fill up quickly with year-end reports, school fees, Christmas plans and the pressure to catch up on everything left undone. Without one governing aim, a busy quarter simply scatters us.

So before October gathers speed, settle the one thing.

PRAYER
> Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for carrying me through three quarters of this year. As the last quarter begins, gather my scattered attention and fix it on Christ. I lay down what is behind me, the good and the bad, and I reach for what You have ahead. One thing I do: I follow Jesus to the finish. In Jesus’ name! Hallelujah! Amen!

I Press Toward the Goal:

Philippians 3:14 is not merely the launch verse of 2026's devotional year; it is the continuous theme woven through every quarter, every month, and every week. Paul's declaration "I press" is in the present tense, active, and moving. There is never a point at which the pressing is finally and completely finished on this side of eternity.

The goal has not moved. The prize has not diminished. The upward call of God in Christ Jesus is as vivid and compelling as it was on 1 January 2026, when this year began. Press forward into tomorrow, the final day of Q3, and then press onward into Q4.

PRAYER:
> Gracious Heavenly Father, let the full weight of this quarter, with its challenges, victories, sowing, and harvest, fuel my pressing towards the goal. I press forward into Q4 with gratitude and fresh determination. In Jesus' name! Hallelujah! Amen!

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.

Living Faith

The heroes of Hebrews 11 demonstrate faith in every conceivable circumstance: Abraham left without knowing where he was going; Moses chose suffering over the pleasures of Egypt; Noah built for a flood that had not yet occurred; the unnamed others went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, afflicted, tormented. Their faith was not comfortable, but it was real and always forward-pressing.

Your Q4 will demand exactly this kind of faith; the faith that presses forward not because every question is answered, but because the One who calls is trustworthy. The substance is there, even if you cannot yet hold it in your hands. The evidence is present, even if your eyes cannot yet see it. Press forward in living faith, and let Q4 begin with the certainty of a believer who knows that what is hoped for is already real.

PRAYER:
> Gracious Heavenly Father, let my faith be real, active, and forward-looking, not a passive hope but a present substance. As I close Q3 and enter Q4, let faith be the ground beneath my feet and the wind in my sails. In Jesus' name! Hallelujah! Amen!

The Lord Will Perfect That Which Concerns Me:

"That which concerns me": every anxiety, every unresolved situation, every God-given vision that is still in process; the Lord will perfect it. The word "perfect" is to end, to complete, to bring to its final conclusion. What God starts, He brings faithfully to completion.

The ground of this confidence is not David's faithfulness but God's mercy: "Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever." The same lovingkindness that has sustained David through battles, failures, and years of waiting will carry this unfinished work to completion. The permanence of God's mercy guarantees that the work He has begun will not be abandoned midway.

"Do not forsake the works of Your hands". David prays this not because he believes God will forsake him, but as a declaration of faith: You made me; You are not done with me. I am the work of Your hands, and the works of Your hands are not left incomplete. Press forward in the final days of September, knowing that you are God's workmanship and that He does not walk away from unfinished works.

PRAYER:
> Gracious Heavenly Father, I trust You with every unresolved concern of my life. Perfect it; bring it to the completion You designed. I rest in Your enduring mercy that guarantees You will not forsake the work You have begun in me. In Jesus’ name! Amen!
