When I was a child, fear of snakes was planted in me.
My dad’s warning after we killed one long ago stayed with me
never again, never touch, never try.
That fear followed me into adulthood.
Even when I killed one months ago, I did it with trembling hands.
But today… everything shifted.
A live snake lay before us.
Many stood back, afraid,
eyes wide, hearts racing.
But I stepped forward.
I was the only one brave enough to hold it.
Not because I had no fear,
but because I refused to let fear have the final word.
Sometimes courage isn’t about being the strongest
it’s about being the one who dares
when everyone else steps away
