Did you know that it is wrong to say I want to register a CAC?
Okay relax and let me explain.

If you go to the supermarket and tell a sales attendant that you want to buy a supermarket, you’ll be seen as a weird person right?

But if you were to ask the same sales attendant to show you where the bread is, she’ll quickly show you.
Why do you think this happens? It’s because a supermarket consists of a lot of things. A supermarket is not just one thing okay?

Now it's the same with the corporate affairs commission.
CAC registration comes in different categories. We have the business name, company and NGO categories to mention a few.

The Business name registration is mostly for those who are just starting their business, and really want to secure their business names, While building their brand gradually. When you register a business name under the corporate affairs commission, you’ll be given a certificate and a status report.

Company registration is for those who want to protect your personal assets from business liabilities. Under the corporate affairs commission not all types of businesses can go under the business name category.

Some are strictly to be registered under a company, with fixed share capitals. The documents you’ll be given when you register a company are a certificate with TIN, status report and memart.

We also have the NGO category- all churches, foundations, associations and mosques come under this category. When you register an ngo, the documents you get are Trustees constitution, Status report and Certificate.

Mr Mark, you run your company without registering it and I have no problem with that, just please stop advising others to do same when you don't really know what's at stake.

Do you know that someone else could register your company name before you?
What do you think will happen when the person finds out you're also using that name? I'm sure you can figure that out by yourself.

I'm sure you don't know this but registering your company can increase your chances of getting a loan or grant from the bank or government. It can also open doors to partnership and investment.

What about that corporate account you want to open for your company? Do you think any bank will open a corporate account for your company without requesting your CAC documents?
