Engr. (Dr) Wuraola Atinuke Owolabi FNSE FNIEEE Celebrates With Muslims On Eid-el-Kabir

On behalf of my family and the Humanitarian Resettlement and Welfare Committee of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), I wish to extend my warmest felicitations to our Muslim brothers and sisters across the South-West, the North Central region, and the entire nation on the auspicious occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.

This sacred celebration, rooted in the profound obedience, sacrifice, and faith of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), serves as a timely reminder of the values required to build a stronger, more compassionate society.

As we celebrate, let us remember that the true essence of Sallah lies in:
-Sacrifice: Extending a helping hand to the vulnerable, the displaced, and those navigating difficult times.

-Resilience: Standing firm in faith and hope as we collectively work toward regional development and national rebirth.

-Unity: Fostering peace, mutual respect, and harmonious coexistence across all regional and cultural boundaries.

In line with our mandate at the NCDC, we remain fiercely committed to the humanitarian resettlement, welfare, and sustainable empowerment of our communities. True progress is only achieved when we lift each other up, ensuring no one is left behind.

May this Eid bring absolute peace to our homes, prosperity to our endeavors, and lasting stability to our great nation.

Barka de Sallah! Eid Mubarak!

Signed:
Engr. (Dr) Wuraola Atinuke Owolabi, FNSE, FNIEEE
Chairman, Humanitarian Resettlement and Welfare Committee,
South-West Representative, North Central Development Commission (NCDC)

The Managing Director of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Dr. Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, says the Commission will align its proposed strategic road map with the National Regional Development Policy (NRDP) currently undergoing validation.

According to him, the NRDP will strengthen the Commission’s capacity to drive strategic development priorities capable of transforming the North Central region and aligning it with national development goals of the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dr. Tsenyil spoke during the Regional Technical Validation Workshop on the National Regional Development Policy (NRDP) 2026–2030 held in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

According to him, the policy represents a bold and strategic framework aimed at promoting balanced territorial development, strengthening regional competitiveness, enhancing intergovernmental coordination, and ensuring that no region is left behind in the pursuit of national prosperity.

He noted that the NCDC has continued to develop frameworks for its interventions, adding that the implementation of the National Regional Development Policy will further enhance the Commission’s mandate and operations.

The Managing Director stressed that the North Central Development Commission stands to achieve more through collaboration and synergy with other Regional Development Commissions, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, security, investment, human capital development, empowerment, and productivity across the regions.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Development, Dr. Mary Ogbe, represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Albert Asotibe, disclosed that the North Central workshop is the third in the series of regional validation engagements, following similar exercises in the South East and South South geopolitical zones.

She explained that the National Regional Development Policy is designed to provide a coordinated roadmap for regional development in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Permanent Secretary further revealed that once fully developed, adopted, and approved by the Federal Executive Council, the policy would serve as a comprehensive guide for the operations of Regional Development Commissions to ensure synergy and national integration.

Also speaking, the UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Elsie Attafuah, represented by Policy Specialist Dr. Sola, described the policy initiative as inclusive and people-oriented, noting that it provides citizens with opportunities to actively participate in shaping the development of their regions through inputs, suggestions, and constructive engagement.

He emphasized that the success of the policy would depend largely on public ownership, with the Development Commissions serving as key drivers of implementation.

Participants at the workshop were urged to contribute meaningfully toward enriching the draft policy to ensure it becomes a solid platform for rapid and sustainable development.

Other stakeholders commended the Ministry of Regional Development, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the North Central Development Commission for convening the workshop and fostering broad stakeholder participation.

The workshop later proceeded into technical sessions where the Lead Consultant presented an overview of the draft NRDP document.

In their various contributions, participants raised issues bordering on project conception and needs assessment, funding mechanisms and public-private partnerships, institutional discipline and leadership, monitoring and evaluation, grassroots participation, and equitable distribution of projects across the regions.

NCDC ASSURES PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES OF INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Dr. Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to inclusive development, assuring that no segment of society, particularly persons living with disabilities, will be left behind in its programmes and activities.

Dr. Yiltsen gave the assurance while receiving members of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the NCDC in Lafia. He described the visit as timely and significant, stressing that the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities remain a key aspect of the Commission’s mandate to promote equitable development across the North Central region.

The MD/CEO stated that the NCDC is determined to ensure that persons with disabilities across the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory are adequately represented and catered for in all intervention programmes of the Commission.

He said the Commission looks forward to building strong partnerships with state and national disability rights commissions to deepen collaboration and provide proper guidance in addressing the needs of persons living with disabilities.

According to him, such collaboration will enable the Commission to better understand the specific needs of persons with disabilities and ensure the provision of appropriate support systems, facilities, and assistive equipment that will improve their welfare and inclusion in society.

Chairman of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission, Mallam Saleh Barde Keana, congratulated the Managing Director and members of the NCDC Board on their appointments, expressing confidence that the Commission would make a lasting impact across the North Central region.

He noted that many stakeholders, especially persons living with disabilities, had eagerly awaited the takeoff of the NCDC because of the huge expectations surrounding its establishment and leadership.

Mallam Keana explained that the visit was aimed at formally introducing the Disability Rights Commission to the management of the NCDC and laying the foundation for a cordial and productive working relationship between both institutions.

The Chairman wished the management of the NCDC success in the discharge of its responsibilities and emphasized the need to carry persons living with disabilities along in all policies and interventions across the region.

The visit was attended by top officials of the Commission, including the Executive Director of Administration and Human Resources, Hajia Bilqis Jumoke Sanni, and the Executive Director of Corporate Services, James Abel Uloko, alongside senior officials of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission.
