Mohbad passed NECO at one sitting, I don’t know why he joined Naira Marley — Ex-principal:::::

Abidemi Faboye, the proprietor and principal of Abifab College, Ikorodu, Lagos, the secondary school Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, attended in an interview with Punch talks about the memories he has of the late singer.

Excerpt below….

How would you describe Mohbad?
I knew him when he enrolled in my school in 2013. His elder sister, Blessing, also graduated from the school in 2013. He was brought from a public school, and he was a quiet boy. He was tall and slim. It was years after secondary school that he added weight.

Did you know he was a member of the Marlian group?
When I heard that he was a member of the Marlian group, I was surprised. I doubted if he could cope with such group. Although he was mature, I felt he must have mixed with a few others who joined the record label. I prayed that God would be with him, because after he left school, we did not communicate regularly.

Did he show any sign of his musical talent while he was in school?
Many of us, including the teachers who taught him, were surprised. When we heard about Imole, we were all surprised. I was not familiar with afrobeats music, until one day, my daughter told me, ‘Do you know Uncle Promise is now Mohbad?’ I took my phone and chatted with him via Messenger. He then gave me his number. His dad is a carpenter, and as a student, he often assisted his dad. He learnt carpentry from his father, who is also a pastor.

Back then, I noticed then that whenever school closed, he did not usually stay for up to five minutes, before going home. His house was a bit far from the school, so I always thought he wanted to get back home on time. He was active in the school’s music club. During quiz competitions, he would lead with songs.

When he rose to fame; sometimes, I would call him, and he wouldn’t pick up his calls. But, he would call me back and say, “Sir, I am in the studio rehearsing.” He was busy with his music, and he told me that immediately he had inspirations, he would write down the lyrics in a jotter and later develop them.

When he became popular, I was very happy that I had somebody who was not a doctor or pilot, but a musician. He was a real imole (light) of afrobeats music.

He was a child of promise; a star. Before his death, he got to a level where if one tuned in to any radio station, one would hear his songs. When people learnt that he passed through this school, they began to ask how I coped with him. It was after his death that people got to know he was a product of Abifab College. Now, I receive condolences as if I was his biological father. His seniors and juniors call me from different places, including the United Kingdom, expressing their condolences. He was a star that we lost too early.

FUNNY BUT TRUE !!!
1. Remember Further Maths (aka Additional Mathematics) ???
They warned you that it'd be tough so you committed to listening attentively from the very beginning...
2. ...things started very well. 2a+8a = 10a. Easy beans. You are happy. This thing is not so hard. You are following it. Very happy.
3. Then slowly, you don't see any number again, just letters fighting Jackie Chan on the board; Sin 0/Cos 0 = A/Bx find x.... ahan. You vexed!
4. You went back to your note, & started thinking, "at what point did I miss it? Why did the teacher eliminate numbers? Why is "x" important?"
5. You say ok, may be it is just this part. Then the teacher goes, find x if α%*¤< + & @%β^ = &^^ # x. 😳
You ask the teacher, "please give us a clue Sir"
6. In your head, you are thinking, "how can you tell me to find x when I can't even find all the things surrounding x?"
7. At that point, you start to dream about your blessed and assured "F" in WAEC. To avoid it, you look for a friend to explain better to you.
8. This time, you didn't even look for the girl you were tripping for to come teach you because this time...u really want to learn
9. You remember your parents, the school fees and the "F" you were already dreaming about. You didn't fool yourself. You looked for your guy.
10. You even bought that expensive Further Maths text book. That one where after page one, everything else is written in tongues.
11. You bought rechargeable lamp. Called your mum to bring more provisions because "I now read at night and I get hungry"
12. You mean business. You want to know how ordinary numbers suddenly changed to Chinese language before your eyes.
13. You friend is even kind. He started with BODMAS. He makes you understand nothing in Further Maths is beyond BODMAS. You are happy. Easy.
14. After two hours of learning, you got everything. Your friend should be a teacher you thought. He teaches better. Wow! You feel really good!
15. Back in the hostel alone, you picked two easy "problems," did wuru wuru to the answer. You checked the back for answer. Yay! You gorrit!
16. Back in class, the teacher is not even writing letters that you know again, he has gone Greek on you. Tetha, Beta, Alpha...argh!
17. As if that wasn't evil enough, he combines them, "tan tetha" "cos tetha" and he draws one snake that look like S like this.......!!!
18. That was the point the "F" in your dream became flesh and formed tears on your face. You must call mummy. You know that.
19. Then something in you said, don't call her. She will think you are an Olodo if you don't do "Science class". So you didn't bother.
20. You simply just gave yourself brain. Ran faster than light to see what was happening in Art Class
21. They were teaching them "the Macpherson constitution" and what made the "Clifford constitution" different.
22. Then they spoke about the "Motion for Independence" and the "1979 constitution." You felt at home.
23. Next day, you take the Further Maths text books and all the big books like it, over to CMS. Sell them all !!!
LOLzzz 😀!
24. This is a true life story of real people who were really brilliant but had no business in "Science Class" but "had" to be there... just to form Alagbará
25. Society insists; smart people are in Science Class. The others join Art Class. This is tragic and really this ought to stop soon!
26. There are no dumb people. You are smart at what you thrive at and most of us thrive at something...
27. That I can't thrive at what you thrive at doesn't make me dumb. Usain Bolt will outrun LeBron James on the track. But in B'Ball🏀? ..James wins !
28. To this day, some of you still judge yourself based on what your friends are achieving. Please, judge yourself against yourself alone!
.......
30. Don't make your life like football leagues where you check on the results of others to feel
better. (Copied)
Enjoy your day.

Here is a list of things you need to teach your Child(ren) at early age (Must Read)
1. Warn your Girl Child never to sit on anyone’s laps no matter the situation, including uncles.
2. Avoid getting Dressed in front of your child once he/she is 2 years old. Learn to excuse them or yourself.
3. Never allow any adult refer to your child as ‘my wife’ or ‘my husband’
4. Whenever your child goes out to play with friends make sure you look for a way to find out what kind of play they do, because young people now s*xually abuse themselves.
5. Never force your child to visit any adult he or she is not comfortable with and also be observant if your child becomes too fond of a particular adult.
6. Once a very lively child suddenly becomes withdrawn you may need to patiently ask lots of questions from your child.
7. Carefully educate your grown ups about the right values of s*x . If you don’t, the society will teach them the wrong values.
8. It is always advisable you go through any new Material like cartoons you just bought for them before they start seeing it themselves.
9. Ensure you activate parental controls on your cable networks and advice your friends especially those your child(ren) visit(s) often.
10. Teach your 3 year olds how to wash their private parts properly and warn them never to allow anyone touch those areas and that includes you (remember, charity begins from home and with you).
11. Blacklist some materials/associates you think could threaten the sanity of your child (this includes music, movies and even friends and families).
12. Let your child(ren) understand the value of standing out of the crowd.
13. Once your child complains about a particular person, don’t keep quiet about it. Take up the case and show them you can defend them.
Remember, we are either parents or parents-to-be… Have a Nice day!

A Degree Is Not Who You Are: The Story of Rotimi Williams vs Gani Fawehinmi*

Gani Fawehinmi was the best legal mind of his time. But he was not even the best in his university days; truthfully, he had ordinary pass in his Law Degree, not even a Third Class Degree. He could be classified as “Let My People Go” in those days.

After Gani left the University and passed out of Law School, there was nothing ordinary again in his life. He became the best in everything he touched.

He wrote lots of legal books and journals in Nigeria. He visited courts more than those who made First Class and those who became SAN before him.

Gani’s presence in any court was a big news to the press and the nation. He was delightful and reassuring to watch, he spoke the language of his profession like an angel, and every judge knew him as a man of integrity.

Gani was the most honourable lawyer Nigeria ever produced. To most Nigerians, particularly the poor and middle class, he was their hope, and epitome of graceful expectations of how to prosecute cases. He made the legal profession honourable.

One of Gani’s most memorable case was against Rotimi Williams over integrity. He made a mockery of the man Nigeria called "Timi the Law", the Chairman of the 1979 Constitution Drafting Committee of 49 Wise Men. It was supposed to be 50 wise men but Chief Obafemi Awolowo pulled out of the committee.

Why?

The first appointment given to Rotimi Williams as Attorney General of Western Region was by Awolowo as Premier. It was the mistake of the then Head of State, General Muritala Mohammed to think Chief Obafemi Awolowo could serve under Rotimi Williams. Unfortunately, he never consulted Chief Obafemi Awolowo before he made the announcement on radio.

Rotimi Williams had sued Gani over his integrity and like Shylock he wanted a pound of flesh, the flesh that will show the nation Rotimi was the Law.

He also wanted an open apology in the court with the press and new radicals of media like Dan Agbese, Dele Giwa, Yakubu Mohamed and Ray Ekpu around. But he got more than what he bargained for.

When Gani stood up, the poor and middle class stood up with him. If Gani had failed lots of his fans would have cried openly in the court but he turned things around.

He took few steps towards the Judge and demanded to put Timi the Law on the witness stand for cross examination.

No one had ever done that in the history of Nigeria, probably in Africa.

Rotimi was not a short man either probably around 6.2 ft, tall and huge with sharp penetrating eyes, broad shoulders, his presence took away the oxygen in the room; he was the attention in any court. He was indeed the 'Giant of Legal Profession.'

Rotimi wore his robe like a rag and if the event could be biblically assessed, it was like David standing next to Goliath.

Rotimi had everything his profession could offer, fame, money and power.

Judges bowed before him and who would not? He wrote the Law of the Land. If not why would he be called Timi the Law.

To the surprise of the nation, the presiding Judge granted the request of Gani to have the man that was greater than life on the witness box.

Gani had a mischievous smile on his thin lips. He knew he had Rotimi by the balls. He was going to tear down the wall to show Nigerians how coleric his adversary was.

The hate was glaring, we knew the occasion would be historical as we were about to witness how David of Nigeria's Legal Profession would defeat the Goliath of the Learned Colleagues.

Gani asked if Rotimi ever attended the popular Secondary School in Lagos, he mentioned. Rotimi had no choice than to confirm he did.

Gani told the court to look at Rotimi Williams as a student of the secondary school who stole a calculator or so and was sent out for stealing, if such a thief had any integrity?

Rotimi never had any integrity he said; infact he lost it from his secondary school days and wondered what he wanted to protect as an adult. Gani Fawehinmi concluded.

Rotimi Williams was almost in tears.

The Judge then called the two lawyers to his chambers and Rotimi Williams withdrew the case.

He never recovered from the bruises of the shame which the press sensationally reviewed on the pages of newspapers and talk radio.

From General Gowon to Military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, they were all scared of Gani Fawehinmi.

Gani was a friend of the sick and the poor, a philanthropist with special attention to education where he noted his own weakness.

He gave Nigeria his all, energies and commitment to the Rule of Law and love for humanity.

If his profession were to be military, Gani would be more than a four star General.

He was indeed what a Lawyer could be, to this Oracle, Gani was the Perry Mason of Nigerian Law.

PS:

What you make out of your university education depends on what you put into the society.

Your degree is not a waste; it is template for you to understand life and contribute meaningfully to the society.

The man who makes a difference is the one with education to improve his environments not the paper qualifications.

I beseach you my readers to have a renewal of spirit and mind in how you see life.

Let your goal in life be guided with your contribution to your society and never look down on anyone who came out of the University with ordinary pass. He could be the one to make a difference.
