NATIONAL CHAIRMAN 3M-NIMMME
He asked that COREN make more efforts in utilizing the manpower of the membership of 3M-NIMMME. He said they are available for COREN accreditation exercises of the over 27 institutions that offer Mining, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (The 3M Professions) in one form or another. He said we can help develop the man-power of COREN by taking them through relevant capacity developments and trainings. 3M-NIMMME is also very much interested in the Engineering regulation activities of the ERM (Engineering Regulation and Monitoring) where he said we have the experience manpower in materials and quality control issues.
PRESIDENT COREN
On Accreditation of Institutions it includes Universities, Polytechnics, Technical Colleges and Technical Training Centers (that are under the National Skill Qualification (NSQ) program). The basis of accreditation Is that all accreditors (from Academia and from Industry who both feature on all accreditations) must have undergone training and been certified for OBE accreditation and they should be the COREN database. But he went further to say that we should compile our OBE certified members and send the list in a letter to him.
On ERM (Engineering Regulation and Monitoring) and STC (State Technical Committees) 3M will be involved.
COREN as regulator is empowered to sanction companies and staff (sealing and blacklisting respectively) that do not meet COREN standards or good practices in manufacturing and production settings.
On Personal development and knowledge standardization, he discussed how COREN was moving ahead with the Mandatory Continuous Professional Development (MCPD) and the use of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points.
The accumulated proven CPD points will be used to asses your annual license application.
The same team met with the Registrar of COREN Prof O.A.U Uche FNSE in his Office and equally engaged him in conversation.

In his address, the National Chairman thanked the Registrar for the opportunity to meet and repeated the same points as expressed to the President.
REGISTRAR COREN – PROF O.A.U. UCHE
He discussed the issues of NSE accreditation of Universities and Polytechnics, but promised to look at the issue and ensure more OBE certified and trained engineers from 3M-NIMMME will attend in future.
He talked about the 11 thematic areas and said 3M-NIMMME should look out for opportunities in these areas and COREN would be all ears namely:

• Oil and Gas
• Telecommunications
• Aviation
• Maritime
• Manufacturing
• Mining
• Biomedical
• Agro-Allied
• Power
• Transport
