A Proud Moment for a Young Muslimah

About three years ago, a mother brought her young daughter to my home. She had shared with her daughter some of my personal journey as a young munaqaba when I started and the girl had become interested in wearing the niqab herself.

"Maryam has some questions for you Omm Maher" her mother said.

At the time, I was busy in the kitchen, so I invited Maryam to sit with me while I worked. What followed was a conversation I still remember vividly.

She asked thoughtful and intelligent questions about the niqab, my journey, the challenges I had faced, and how I navigated them. I was impressed by her curiosity, maturity, and sincerity.

When she had finished asking her questions, I turned to her and said:

"Maryam, if you start wearing the niqab and someone at school tries to bully you because of it, what will you do?"

Without hesitation, she answered with a confidence far beyond her years:

"I won't even allow them to bully me. And if they do, I will stand up for myself."

At that moment, I looked at her mother and said:

"Maryam is ready. Let her begin her niqab journey."

A few days later, I gave her a small gift,the very first niqab she would ever wear. It was a simple gesture, but one I hoped would remain a cherished memory between us.

Today, seeing that same young girl, Maryam Yusuf, representing Nigeria on the world stage and helping her team achieve victory at the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup in China fills my heart with joy.

What I remember most is not just her intelligence, but her courage, confidence, and determination. Even at a young age, she carried herself with purpose. Allahuma Baarik!

Congratulations, Maryam, and congratulations to your family. May Allah continue to bless you with beneficial knowledge, increase you in excellence, preserve your faith and character, and make you a shining light for the Ummah.

One Feared De*ad as Truck Knocks Down Motorcyclist in Ilorin.

A yet to be identified commercial motorcyclist has lost his life in a road accident at the Asa-Dam area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The motorcyclist sustained a fatal head injury after hitting his head on the ground and di*ed instantly.The motorist was conveying a male passenger and his two-year-old child.

The man and the toddler sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
