2027: I Told Tinubu Not to Give APC Governorship Ticket to Offa – Olofa

The Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, has revealed that he personally advised President Bola Tinubu against zoning the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election to Offa.

The monarch made the disclosure in a now-viral video recorded during a meeting with some Offa chiefs, where discussions centred on the political future of Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to the traditional ruler, President Tinubu had initially considered supporting the emergence of Senator Oyelola Ashiru, who represents Kwara South Senatorial District, as the APC governorship candidate. However, he said he persuaded the President to abandon the plan based on his assessment of the senator's performance in office.

"As things stand today, Yakubu Danladi is our governor, and Lekan is our senator," the monarch said.

Explaining his position, the Olofa said he told the President that Senator Ashiru's eight-year tenure in the Senate did not justify his governorship ambition.

"I discussed the matter with the President. Initially, they wanted to give the governorship ticket to Lola, but I changed that. When the President said it would mean that Offa would not have any top political position in 2027, I told him, 'So be it.'

"My reason was simple: he served for eight years as a senator and did not perform well," the monarch said.

Oba Esuwoye further disclosed that Senator Ashiru defended his governorship aspiration by citing projects he had attracted to Offa, but said those interventions fell short of the expectations of the people.

"Lola then said that, considering everything he had done for Offa, he deserved the opportunity. I responded by asking him, 'Of what benefit is the road you renovated leading to the Imam's house when there are many other roads that would have been far more useful to the people, yet you neglected them?'" he said.

The monarch also criticised what he described as the senator's approach to executing constituency projects.

"If he is given ₦1 billion, he will only construct a road that costs no more than ₦100 million, yet he will claim to have executed a major road project. May such injustice never prosper," he said.

The remarks have generated reactions within political circles in Kwara State, coming amid growing discussions over the APC's governorship succession ahead of the 2027 election.

As of the time of filing this report, Senator Oyelola Ashiru had yet to publicly respond to the comments attributed to the Olofa in the viral video.

9 Rescued, 3 Bandits Killed as Forest Guards Foil Cross-Border Abduction in Kwara
• Victims Freed in Obbo-Ile/Ora Forest After Attack on Farmlands in Ekiti LGA_


Nine abducted persons have been rescued and three suspected bandits killed after a fierce gun battle between security operatives and criminal elements in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to officials statement made available to newsmen by the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti Local Government Council Chairman, Prince Dada Sunday, the bandits who were heading from Ekiti State with some of the people they had earlier abducted, attacked farmers on their farmlands in Obbo-Aiyegunle and Ora-Aiyetoro communities in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Office of the Forest Guards in Ekiti LGA was alerted and immediately mobilized operatives. The team, working with local hunters and vigilantes, intercepted the armed criminals in between Obbo-Ile and Ora-Aiyetoro in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State forest as they attempted to move the victims across the border.

During the exchange of gunfire, three of the bandits were neutralized. All nine abductees were rescued. One of the victims sustained injuries after he was attacked with a machete by the bandits while trying to resist abduction, and he is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Umaru Muazu, a rescued farmer from Obbo Aiyegunle, narrated how the attack happened at about 4:57pm as he was leaving the market.
“Men came from nowhere and put a gun to my head. Four of them took me and my son. I fell to the ground out of shock,” Muazu said.

Another victim, Ibrahim Danga, also of Obbo Aiyegunle, said the timely intervention of the forest guards saved their lives.

Owolabi Adebayo, a member of the Kwara Forest Guards, confirmed the operation. He noted that the bandits were heavily armed.
“There is no type of firearm that is not in their hand. We need more equipment such as body armor, binoculars, night goggles, walkie-talkies and more ammunition to engage them effectively,” Adebayo said.

The Chief Security Officer of Ekiti LGA, Agbemuko Gabriel, praised the forest guards for their intelligence and rapid response.
“What they did for us two days ago, they are the ones that helped us rescue those people that were kidnapped along Ora-Ayetoro axis in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. They have been doing enough security and intelligence work for us,” Gabriel said.

Video from the scene showed security personnel with several recovered motorcycles, while the nine rescued victims posed together.

The operation comes amid increased localized bush combing by joint security teams in Kwara South. It also follows the Federal Government’s approval of a new Army battalion for Umaro, a strategic move aimed at strengthening the fight against terrorism and banditry in the region.

Security agencies say patrols and intelligence gathering will be intensified along Kwara’s border communities to prevent further attacks on farming settlements.

Burkina Faso's leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has unveiled new military uniforms made from locally woven Burkinabè fabric, reinforcing his government's drive to promote local production and national identity.

The uniforms were introduced during the graduation of the 25th class of Active-Duty Officer Cadets at the Georges-Namoano Military Academy, where 218 newly commissioned officers marched wearing attire inspired by the traditional "Cencengu" fabric of the Gulmu region in eastern Burkina Faso.

Since taking power in 2022, Traoré has championed policies aimed at reducing dependence on foreign imports, boosting local industries, and promoting African self-reliance. His government says the new uniforms celebrate the craftsmanship of Burkinabè weavers while showcasing the country's cultural heritage.

The move is the latest in Traoré's broader vision of strengthening national sovereignty, not only through security reforms but also by encouraging the use of locally made products across state institutions.

BREAKING: AbdulRazaq Flags Off 1,600 Housing Units Across Kwara, Smart City to Accommodate 540,000 Residents

The Kwara State Government has announced plans to construct 1,600 housing units across the state's 16 Local Government Areas as part of its efforts to reduce the housing deficit and improve the standard of living for residents.

Kwara News Update reports that the initiative is in line with the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to using housing and infrastructure development as tools for economic growth, poverty reduction, job creation and improved social welfare.

Under the plan, 100 housing units will be constructed in each of the 16 local government areas following an assessment of housing needs and population growth across the state.

Major towns selected to benefit from the housing scheme include Lafiagi, Offa, Erin-Ile, Babaloma, Patigi, Kaiama, as well as communities within Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Ilorin West Local Government Areas.

The state government also disclosed that additional housing projects will be developed in communities hosting campuses of Kwara State University (KWASU) to address accommodation challenges in those areas.

Speaking on the initiative, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, revealed that the state had acquired the 132-unit Ogbondoroko Federal Housing Estate from the Federal Government as part of efforts to expand access to affordable housing.

He further disclosed that all preliminary processes had been completed for the construction of an additional 250 housing units, with work expected to commence within the current fiscal year.

According to the commissioner, the housing projects will not only provide decent accommodation for residents but will also stimulate economic activities, create employment opportunities and promote social development across the state.

The housing estates will mainly consist of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, designed to meet the needs of average families.

To address the rising cost of construction materials, the AbdulRazaq administration is also partnering with the Federal Government to establish the North Central Building Materials Development Hub in Kwara State. The facility is expected to promote local production of building materials, reduce dependence on imports and lower construction costs across the North-Central region.

Meanwhile, the state government said work on the Kwara Smart City Project has reached an advanced stage. The project is expected to accommodate about 540,000 residents and has been described as one of the most ambitious urban development initiatives in the history of Kwara State.

The government said the Smart City is designed to position Kwara for future population growth, modern urban development and sustainable economic expansion.

Drama at Oja-Oba as Soldier Reportedly Removes Monthly Sanitation Barricade

Tension briefly erupted at Oja-Oba, Ilorin, during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise after a vehicle conveying soldiers reportedly removed a road barricade erected to restrict vehicular movement, prompting the intervention of police officers.

According to information gathered by Diamond FM, officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment had asked the occupant of the vehicle to identify himself as a soldier before allowing him to proceed.

The soldier, however, reportedly insisted that his status entitled him to pass through the restricted area and allegedly removed the barricade, leading to a heated exchange with the environmental officers.

The incident drew the attention of residents and traders in the area before police officers arrived at the scene and fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The officers were able to calm the situation and resolve the disagreement, after which normal activities resumed. No casualties or arrests were reported in connection with the incident.

Again, any member of the community finding it difficult to stop the operation of these OKADA riders in their place is an accomplice to their deadly activities in that community.
