Kwara NSCDC Holds Dialogue To Prevent Farmer-Herder Clashes

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has taken another step towards preventing farmer-herder conflicts and strengthening security in rural communities with a one-day community sensitisation and dialogue programme held on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

The programme, organised by the Agro-Rangers Unit of the Command, was held at the NSCDC Kwara State Command Headquarters, Ilorin, under the theme, “Community Sensitisation on Agricultural Security and Conflict Prevention in Kwara State.”

The engagement brought together farmers, herders, community leaders, Agro-Rangers personnel and other stakeholders to discuss challenges affecting agricultural communities and practical ways of preventing conflicts.

Declaring the programme open, the Kwara State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, said the protection of agricultural communities requires continuous engagement and cooperation among farmers, herders, community leaders and security agencies.

He urged farmers and herders to maintain peaceful relations and resolve disputes through dialogue, while calling on community members to report early signs of conflict and other security concerns to the appropriate authorities.

The Commandant also highlighted the role of the Corps’ specialised Agro-Rangers Unit, saddled with providing security support for agricultural communities, protecting farmlands and investments, and supporting efforts to prevent and address farmer-herder conflicts.

The interactive session gave participants the opportunity to share their experiences and raise concerns about security and other challenges affecting their communities. Issues raised included the need for better communication, early intervention in disputes and stronger cooperation between communities and security agencies.

The concerns were addressed during the engagement, with stakeholders discussing practical approaches to improving peaceful coexistence, protecting agricultural activities and preventing disputes from escalating into violence.

Other speakers at the programme also called for greater community participation, timely information sharing and peaceful resolution of disputes.

Kwara NSCDC Boss Visits Orientation Camp, Assures Corps Members of Safety

The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, has assured members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II National Youth Service Corps of the Command’s unwavering commitment to their safety and well-being throughout the orientation exercise.

The Commandant gave the assurance on Monday, 24th August 2026, when he visited the Corps Members at the Temporary Orientation Camp located at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, to assess the security arrangements and interact with the Corps Members and camp officials.

Addressing the Corps Members, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed said their safety remained a priority, noting that personnel of the Corps had been strategically deployed within and around the camp to maintain security, ensure orderliness and provide a conducive atmosphere for the successful conduct of the orientation programme.

He urged the Corps Members to remain disciplined, vigilant and security-conscious, while encouraging them to promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to security personnel.

The Commandant further charged them to embrace the spirit of national unity and service, describing the NYSC programme as an important platform for young Nigerians to contribute to national development and foster peaceful coexistence.

Earlier, the NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Tukur, appreciated the Commandant for the visit and the security support provided by the Corps. He acknowledged the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining a safe environment for the Corps Members and other participants at the orientation camp.

EID-EL MAULID: KWARA NSCDC DEPLOYS 1,200 PERSONNEL FOR PEACEFUL CELEBRATION

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has deployed 1,200 personnel across the state to provide enhanced security and ensure a peaceful and orderly Eid-El Maulid celebration.

The deployment, approved by the State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, covers strategic locations including places of worship, markets, motor parks, major roads, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, recreational centres and other public gathering points.

Personnel from specialised units, including the Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Agro Rangers and CBRNE Unit, have also been placed on heightened alert to respond promptly to emerging security concerns.

The Commandant urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.

He congratulated the Muslim faithful across Kwara State on the occasion of Eid-El Maulid, urging them to celebrate peacefully and use the occasion to promote unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Commandant Abbas Received NSCDC Director, Legal Services In Kwara

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, on Thursday 20th August 2026 received the Director, Legal Services, NSCDC National Headquarters, Mr. Aminu Alilu Kayode, during his official visit to the Command Headquarters in Ilorin.

The visit featured a specialised legal enlightenment session for investigators and personnel handling cases, with emphasis on investigation, arrest, evidence gathering, prosecution, suspects’ rights and the proper application of relevant laws.

Addressing the participants, the Director stressed the importance of sound knowledge of the law in the effective discharge of investigative responsibilities. He urged personnel to familiarise themselves with the NSCDC Act, relevant criminal laws, the Administration of Criminal Justice Law and other applicable legal provisions.

Mr. Kayode cautioned investigators against exceeding their statutory powers, stressing that every investigative and enforcement action must be legally justified and properly documented. He advised them to properly document complaints, establish the facts of each case and understand the ingredients of an alleged offence before commencing investigation.

He particularly warned against treating every contractual disagreement or debt-related matter as a criminal offence, urging investigators to first establish the presence of criminal elements before taking enforcement action. He also advised personnel to follow due process in handling cases, from the documentation of complaints and lawful invitation of suspects to investigation, evidence gathering, findings and recommendations.

The Director further emphasised the need to respect suspects’ rights throughout the investigative process. He stressed the importance of proper procedures during suspect interviews, including appropriate documentation, recording where required and the provision of an interpreter where a suspect does not understand the language being used.

On evidence gathering and prosecution, Mr. Kayode charged investigators to properly obtain, preserve and document relevant evidence, including documentary and audio-visual materials where applicable. He also advised officers appearing as witnesses in court to thoroughly study their case files and liaise with prosecuting counsel where necessary before giving evidence.

He urged investigators and other personnel handling cases to embrace continuous legal education, professionalism and discipline, noting that the expanding responsibilities of the Corps require personnel to remain competent and operate strictly within the ambit of the law.

Responding, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed appreciated the Director, Legal Services, for the visit and the valuable enlightenment provided. He described the engagement as timely and beneficial, particularly in strengthening the capacity of personnel responsible for investigation and case management.

The Commandant urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained in their duties and reaffirmed the commitment of the Kwara State Command to professional investigations, respect for human rights, strict adherence to due process and effective discharge of the statutory mandate of the Corps.

The Commandant commended the personnel for their dedication and commitment to duty, while charging them to remain professional, vigilant and proactive in the discharge of their responsibilities.
