A month ago we had the privilege of hosting over 150 undergraduates of the University of Ilorin under the entrepreneurship course GSE 301: Entrepreneurship Skills (Livestock feeds and feeding) at Spring Feed.

The lecturer in charge -Dr Biola Salako reached out to the CEO of George Dara Enterprises -Mr Oluwaseyi Dara who was available to guide and give lectures to the students. He shared the story of his entrepenurship journey to motivate and ignite the passion of the students into business.

At George Dara Enterprises, we not only provide solutions for farmers and foster community development at the grassroot but also make knowledge and skills readily available for youths and aspiring business persons. We run an all-round and inclusive policy as regards trainings and capacity building.

This day 6years ago, we sprout forth another business through the feed company for the purpose of impacting more people in our community.

This was done through our farm products, business advisory services to Poultry farmers and our farmers multipourpse cooperative where financial needs of poultry farmers and other actors in the value chain are met.

As we strive for excellence and greater impacts in our community, we will be launching our out- grower scheme for youths and women in our community.

Our mission is to be the solution hub to your poultry needs as we build capacity and explore other value chains as we contribute our quota towards poultry farming sustainability and food security.

At George Dara Enterprises we are also into business development and it gives us joy to set up farms and see it grow. This farm is a model of an initiative we call "Household
Residual Income"- an alternative livelihood for low income earners to support their daily financial needs and also meet the nutritional needs of the home through the cheapest animal protein (egg) sourced from backyard farm.

We supply the cage, birds, feeds and give technical support through routine farm visit as value added service to our clients.
On getting to this particular farm, we realized that the pen house wasn't spacious enough despite the instruction given during construction of the pen house and some basic management lapses in feeding and bio security. Aside this, the birds are doing well and this gladens my heart greatly.

This 90birds backyard farm is expected to generate an average monthly turnover of #136,800 from 72crates of eggs at 80% production with average inputs cost (mainly feed and medication) #99,500. This is expected to add an average monthly income of #37,300( $83 @ CBN rate) to the household.
This is something that can be
introduced by development agencies & the government as support to households to help improve household livelihood in this part of the world.
