Always advice your client to go for soil test as it will help to determine the bearing capacity of the soil you want to erect your structure on.
We all need to be careful when dealing with building foundations as this is the building elements that helps in transferring the load of the building to the soil.
We have two major types of foundation which are:
1. SHALLOW FOUNDATIONS which include the following;
+ Strip foundation
+ Wide foundation
+ Pad foundation
+ Strap foundation
+ Raft foundation
2. DEEP FOUNDATIONS which include the following;
+ Pile foundation
+ Diaphragm walls
+ Displacement foundation.
These are the foundations you need during your building work.
When constructing a bungalow, a duplex or a two-storey building which are common in our society.
The engineer or a builder have to choose the foundation using his experience from the aforementioned types of foundations but it is advised that one should go for soil test if the structure is above two-storey building.
The cost of running a Soil test is not upto 1% of the total amount that would be used in erecting a structure. So don't just choose foundations above two-storey buildings without conducting soil tests.
Therefore, you are advised to always engage a professional Builder in your building projects. a well trained builder will NEVER compromise standards.
