Every day, my DM is filled with one major question:
“How exactly will this partnership with farmers work?”
And more importantly:
“How will you reduce the losses farmers face during peak tomato season?”
To be honest, when I first got that question, I smiled. Not because I didn’t have an answer, but because some details are meant to be shared directly with the farmers I’ll be working with. Partnership is built on trust, and some conversations belong within that circle.
But let me speak on the vision.
During peak season, we all know what happens, tomatoes flood the market. Supply becomes overwhelming, demand drops, and prices crash. Farmers suffer the most. Their hard work goes to waste, and losses become unavoidable.
That is the problem I am committed to solving.
As the CEO of AJ NIG LTD, I am working towards controlling that loss, not by theory, but by action.
Here’s how:
Instead of allowing excess tomatoes to spoil during peak periods, I will be stepping in to buy directly from farmers. Not as a middleman exploiting the situation, but as a partner working hand in hand with them.
These tomatoes, along with peppers and other vegetables, will not go to waste. They will be:
* Dehydrated
* Processed
* Packaged
* And in some cases, milled into powder
This means surplus produce is preserved, value is added, and farmers are protected from massive losses.
Now, another common question:
“How will payments work?”
That part is simple but it’s also something I prefer to discuss directly with the farmers involved. Every agreement will be clear, fair, and mutually beneficial.
What I can say openly is this:
I was told that when tomatoes sell for ₦10,000 in the market, middlemen often buy from farmers at just ₦4,500 to ₦5,000. To me, that is completely unfair.
Even after considering the cost of transporting produce from farm to market, the imbalance is still too wide. Farmers invest heavily time, money, effort, only for others to take the biggest share of the reward.
That is the system I am determined to challenge.
I want to work directly with farmers, side by side, to change that narrative and create something better, for them, and for the future of agriculture.
This is not just business.
This is a system designed for impact.
A system where:
* Farmers win
* Waste is reduced
* Value is created
* And trust is built
If you’re a farmer, this is more than an opportunity, it’s a partnership.
