I didn't start my career as a Telecom Executive.
I started as a Call Center Agent.
In 2006, I joined a telecom company handling customer complaints, inquiries, and service requests. Like many young professionals, I had big dreams but no clear roadmap.
While others saw a call center job, I saw an opportunity to learn the business from the ground up.
I spent my free time studying GSM technology, network operations, and telecommunications engineering.
That decision changed my life.
I moved into Customer Relations and HR Administration, gaining a deeper understanding of people, processes, and business operations.
Then came my breakthrough.
I enrolled in GSM engineering training and transitioned into Network Field Support.
My first months in the field were tough. Long hours, difficult sites, power challenges, and network faults became part of daily life.
But I kept learning.
Eventually, I became one of the top-performing Field Support Engineers in Northern Nigeria.
That opened the door to RF Planning and Optimization.
I learned how networks are designed, optimized, and improved to deliver better customer experience.
From there, my career accelerated:
✓ RF Planning & Optimization Engineer
✓ State Field Operations Manager
✓ Implementation Manager
✓ Led major network rollout projects
✓ Contributed to 4G deployment initiatives
✓ Managed large technical teams
✓ Worked with global vendors including Nokia and Huawei
Today, after more than 20 years in the telecom industry, I serve as a Telecom Consultant, Project Director, and Business Executive helping organizations solve connectivity and infrastructure challenges.
Looking back, the biggest lesson is this:
Your first job does not determine your future.
Continuous learning does.
The skills you build, the problems you solve, and the value you create will always matter more than where you started.
