HAPPY BUILDERS DAY 2025💥

_Summary of Today’s Activities of NIOB Kaduna State Chapter_

Today’s activities started with a visit to the Director General of Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) Bldr. Abdulrahman Yahaya (PhD). @⁨Bldr. Abdurahman Y⁩ The meeting started with an opening prayer followed by introduction of Excos of the NIOB Kaduna State Chapter anchored by the secretary Bldr Cyril Ofozor, who also read the address of the National President of NIOB, Bldr Sir Alderton Ewa Ewa. The address majorly stress on the need to shun building collapse and quack practice, and also call for excellence, safety and professionalism in practice.

The APWBN Chairperson, Bldr Mrs Margret Shwrka and the Kaduna Chapter Deputy Chairperson of APWBN Mrs Halima Lanti also commented and pleaded on the need for the DG to keep on to the bright end on the issue of Builders document. Bldr Adamu Godwin Aboki the financial secretary of the chapter also appreciated the effort of the DG for the support he has been given NIOB Kaduna Chapter and the building profession in general.

In his remarks, the DG KASUPDA Bldr. Abdurrahman Yahya (Phd) responded where he began by emphasizing on the need for builders to be identifying themselves as builders wherever they found themselves. He made mention of some of the contributions offered to NIOB among which are the implementation of stage approval where builders are inculcated, introduction of Builders document as part of requirements for obtaining permit of commercial developments in the state, registration of consortia which would handle the issue of builders documents and then the creation of certification of habitation and fitness which shall soon be implemented. The DG reiterate that the enforcement of Builders document shall soon commence, stressing that KASUPDA is for the professionals and professionalism not for a particular profession.

Furthermore, the DG mentioned some initiatives achieved since he assumed office, saying that based on KPIs, it is expected that he should must have achieved 30% of his plan by the time he celebrates 1 year in office. Some of the initiatives mentioned include; Special permit Unit (SPU) who are responsible for processing express permit and Instant Permit, he also added that the technical and project team are currently working on the Data center and modern integrated lab.
In addition, Both Development Register and Annual Report will be launched in April 2025.

While concluding, the DG raised concern about the low number of applicants among SIWES students and NYSC members, within the building profession. He said while addressing the students "We hope Built Environment will be saturated with professional builders, make effort to register, be determined, persevere, and work hard because without these you are going nowhere".

Finally, the DG concluded by enlightening the students on the need for mentor - mentee relationship giving example of the internship to be soon launched at Yahya Hub, Unguwan Rimi, as he said to the students "we will continue to drag you until the time you will see light".

The visit ended successfully with group photographs and the team headed to NDC for Sites visitation, the planned press release couldn’t hold due to some unavoidable reasons from part of the Sponsor.

RECAP OF 1st Day of the BUILDERS DAY 2025 of the NIOB Kaduna State Chapter.

The Programme Starts with Executives and members converging at Airforce Secondary School, Kaduna for the Catch them Young event, the Programme held successfully and ended with general photograph session.

The session commenced with introduction by the NIOB state secretary, then the APWBN Chairperson. Both gave a good address and after that the Hon. Member gave some wonderful responses.

Hon. Marah started by appreciating the visit and reiterated on the need to submit the issue of Builders document in a formal way so it can be addressed officially. He gave many observations and suggestions such as inviting stakeholders like DG KADFAMA, KADRA, Ministry of Works and the likes to give an address during meetings, he also suggested the creation of billboard around the city of Kaduna to create more awareness about the builders day, establishment of a well sponsored social media platforms and sending special invitations to high profile builders during meetings.

At the midst of the visit, the Hon. Member put some calls to NUJ and KSMC, where he secured spaces for a press release and interview sessions to be aired via radio and TV as part of the Builders Day 2025.

Before the closing, the Hon. Member made pledge of paying JAMB registration for 50 students who will pick interest to study Building and also paying school fees to the first 5 female students who are residents of Kaduna who got admission to study Building. He added that registered builders who find it difficult to practice can contact him for some connections.

During his closing remark, he suggested that the catch them young project should be sustained beyond the builders week, he also suggested that schools should be identified and be visited every month accordingly, so as to create more awareness to broader number among the upcoming generation.

The NIOB Kaduna State chapter in its own remarks appreciated the kind gestures and huge contributions of the Honorable member to NIOB Kaduna state and building profession at large, and therefore presents the Builders Day 2025 Kits to him as sign of appreciation.

The visits ended successfully witht the entourage proceeding to Kaduna Polytechnic where they met students of Building National Diploma 2 level and briefed them about the activities of the NIOB in the state and importance of them attending the institute activities.

The trip was concluded at Command Secondary School where the last batch of the Catch Them Young Programme held successfully.

NIOB KADUNA UPDATE

In another Development, the NIOB entourage paid a courtesy visit to Executive Chairman of Makarfi Local Government Bldr. Kabiru Mayere (Mniob) at Ministry of Local Government Affairs Kaduna.
The entourage was received by the chairman alongside director works Makarfi LG in the conference chamber of the ministry.
The state chapter chairman Bldr. Dr. Mu’awiya Abubakar briefed him on the need for the visit to strengthen the cordial relationship between the institute and the builders in politics for betterment of the state chapter and the National at large.
Bldr. Kabiru Mayere is among the prominent Builders in the state who struggled for the profession to excel right from inception.
The Chairman expressed his gratitude for the visit calling it timely and promised to offer all the required support to the Institute.

The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) Kaduna State Chapter Congratulates New KASUPDA Director General Bldr. Abdurrahman Yahya (Mniob)

The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building under the able leadership of Bldr. Dr. Mu’awiya Abubakar @⁨Dr. Mu’awiya⁩ paid a congratulatory visit to one of its own who was recently appointed as the Director General of Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) Bldr. Abdurrahman Yahaya by Governor Uba Sanu in his office today.
The delegation lead by a prominent Builder Balarabe and Immediate past chairman of the Institute Bldr. Mahmud Salihu along side other executives and members was well received by the DG in the conference room of Kasupda.
The chairman in his remarks send the congratulatory message on behalf of all builders in the state and the country at large. He prays for a successful tenure of the DG and also expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly appointed DG to deliver beyond expectations.

In his lengthy remarks, the Director General appreciates the Builders visit and seek for more supports and prayers from his colleagues in the profession towards delivering the enormous task ahead of him being the first Builder to head the agency since its establishment.
He expressed that his door is open to all and sundry for any kind of positive advice that will lead to achieving a success and actualising the developmental agenda’s of Governor Uba Sani administration.

Members present expressed their appreciation and pledged support and prayers for the betterment of the agency and Kaduna State at large.
The visit ended successfully while the chairman presents the Institute congratulatory office banner to the new Director General.

NIOB Kaduna State Chapter Concludes its April 2024 Workshop

The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) conclude its 1st annual workshop of the year 2024 with the theme “Beyond Preparation, effective utilization of Builders Documents for Sustainable building Production Management”.
The event which was held at Arewa House Kaduna on 24th & 25th April, 2024 had many participants both physical and virtual along side many prominent Builders and past state chapter chairmen of the Institute.

In his closing remarks, chairman of the NIOB Kaduna State chapter Bldr. Dr. Mu’awiya Abubakar expressed his appreciation for the large turnout of participants witnessed during the workshop. He urged the participants to make effective use of the knowledge gained during the workshop.

The event ended successfully with distribution of certificates to attendees of the program.
