The biggest weapon against collective action has always been playing people against each other using ethnicity, region, religion, or even political alignment. It diverts energy away from the actual systemic issues and turns it into infighting.
When the stakes get high and the pressure from authorities intensifies, fear sets in. People often back down or distance themselves because they worry about the personal, financial, or physical cost of standing on the front lines.
Often, everyone agrees on the goal (a better Nigeria, accountability, good governance), but they fracture over how to get there. One person’s approach might be deemed too radical by some, or too compromising by others, causing the crowd to scatter just when solidarity is needed most.
if everyone joined forces, the collective weight would make that kind of isolation and humiliation impossible. True progress requires a level of consistency where people back the cause, not just the individual, and stick together even when the pressure builds.
