'' I've been a technologist all my life, which led me to do a PhD at Stanford University and go on to become a postdoctoral researcher in that university's computer science department.
As part of my post-doc, I introduced and taught course CS359B, the Decentralized Applications on Blockchain course, at Stanford's Department of Computer Science.
This is where I saw the difficulty of bringing blockchain technological advancements to ordinary people.
I believe that today, technology can empower people more than ever.
As a young undergraduate student, I designed and built an innovative computer motherboard from scratch in the lab.
Early in my PhD, I created a framework for writing “smart contracts” on fault-tolerant distributed systems, before blockchain and Ethereum existed, and published it in my thesis.
I also created an online gaming platform, Gameyola, on which millions of people have enjoyed themselves for more than 2,000 man-years; For my later PhD work, I tried to restore those man-years by writing a crowd-powered email assistant that saved people time when dealing with their emails and tasks.
I was also the founding CTO of StartX, a nonprofit startup accelerator for Stanford students that has helped over 2,000 entrepreneurs.
I've been a strong and long-time believer in the technical, financial, and social potential of cryptocurrencies, but I'm frustrated with their current limitations.
I am committed to bringing the power of blockchain to more people by improving the current experience and creating value for everyone.
To do this, I employ a user-centered design philosophy that disrupts the process of developing new blockchains:
– Launch in beta version; invitation of members to the network;
-iteration of the protocol with the members;
- decentralization of the resulting design.
The result is currently available in the form of the Pi Network.
