World Hepatitis Day (July 28)

World Hepatitis Day is observed every year on 28 July to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, a major global health problem that affects the liver. Hepatitis viruses (A, B, C, D, and E) can cause acute or chronic liver disease, leading to liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer if left untreated.

As laboratory personnel, we play a vital role in the fight against hepatitis through accurate laboratory diagnosis, blood donor screening, early detection, monitoring of treatment, and ensuring quality laboratory practices. Early testing and timely treatment can prevent complications and reduce the spread of infection.

On this World Hepatitis Day, let us encourage everyone to get tested, get vaccinated against Hepatitis B, practice safe behaviors, and seek appropriate medical care. Together, we can work towards the global goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
