Determination over Desperation

So, some friends wrote me after the last post. "Dauntless, it's so difficult. I couldn't even tell that I already started to sound desperate. How can I help myself?"

Someone else wrote "I thought I had to make a sale at all cost and by all means. So begging the prospects to place an order for half the price of the item is an act of desperation?

Yes please! All these are acts of desperation. You might get tagged DESPERADO. 😂😂😂

But wait, I'll show you a more excellent way.

Let DETERMINATION take the place of desperation.

Determination will drive you into giving your business everything it takes, especially acquisition of skills and requisite knowledge.

With determination, you know you have to make it work and you have to achieve it the right way.

Desperation is a 🚩🚩

I know this is unconventional, but you know what happens when you find yourself in-between sales. It's even worse when you're in this situation because you're not so good at selling your business.

Sales personnel and business owners who double as sales "experts" find themselves offering more than is meet due to desperation.

As a rule of thumb, I always tell my clients that "if you don't learn to sell your business, you don't have any business being in business."

Desperation may look like something that's about to really work out until the prospect finds you out and takes a walk. By this time, you realise it's not worth it at all.

A product costs 20 dollars, and because things have not been so smooth, you want to sell the same for 10 dollars. That's not customer relationship. That's desperation.

And yes, begging a prospect is also a function of desperation.

Learn to sell. Let your offers be reasonable.

Let your offers be a win-win for you and your prospects.

Integrity is Underrated

You see, this is not me trying to sell a business value to you. I just need you to know that a business may never live long if it runs on falsehood.

In elementary school, kids are taught that "integrity is meaning what you say and saying what you mean." This definition is so apt and it's the same for every phase of endeavour.

Imagine making an order for a 32gb Memory Card on your favourite e-commerce platform. Your order arrives and you excitedly slot the memory card into your phone only to find that the capacity is 8gb.

What will your reaction be?

The speed at which the Internet is becoming a go-to solution for almost everything means you can't afford to deal falsely or deceitfully. Your business loses credibility. On platforms where there are rooms for reviews, it's even worse.

No. It's not a marketing strategy. It's not a sales technique. It is what it is. Fraud. Dishonesty. Wickedness.

An amazing advert with sugary words may bring in a traffic of first timers. Lack of integrity will definitely prevent them from checking back.

This is not even limited to product owners only as it also includes service providers.

Don't promise your prospects a unicorn on a white elephant.

What Customer Service is Not.

Imagine a business that's only kind, compassionate and empathetic towards her customers and clients, while being hostile and uncouth towards others.

I know Customer Service is not alien to you, but then, how well do you fare with others who do not yet belong to your customer base?

When businesses start to realise that every individual is a prospective client then you'll know that not only your present customers deserve excellent Customer Service. Customer Service is a magnet that's capable of drawing the indifferent ones.

Asides being a prospective client, every person you come in contact with is a prospective ambassador who wouldn't hold back from sharing with the world (around them) about your disposition towards them.

Remember, business isn't just about making money. It's about exchanging value for money. Value goes first, then money goes the other direction.

In the last post, I mentioned to you that adverts are a traffic driving tool. Advert is a way to efficiently create an awareness in favour of your business.

There are different platforms to advertise your business, but I'll be particular about just two.

Facebook, and Google.

These two spaces have advertisement platforms called Facebook Ad and Google Ad respectively.

Here's why they are nearly every business builder's choice(s)...

Facebook has over 2.7 billion active users daily. Users with real digital footprints.

Google, on the other hand, sees over 5.8 billion search requests daily.

Now, let's assume ONLY 1% of Facebook and Google users need what your business offers, that means you stand the chance of indirectly telling 27 million active users about your business on Facebook and 58 million Google users.

Do you know what that means for your business?
I guess you'll be needing traffic wardens and auto-responders to handle the overwhelming traffic that'll follow. As you receive the influx of traffic, you simply go on to classify the leads and close out the sales as appropriate.

Your ads can be targeted and you do not need to break the Bank to run successful ad campaigns.

In a local marketplace, one trader promotes her items by screaming out her lungs to attract prospective buyers. While another trader pays a Mobile Sales Band to promote her items by creating awareness across neighboring communities.

Who do you think will gain more publicity and more sales?

A lot of business owners consider advert placement as an expense and/or liability. As a matter of fact, some believe it's a miscellaneous expense. 🤦🤦

Advert placement is an investment with massive ROI (Returns on Investment) when done well.

How do I get to do it properly?

There are two ways to it. You can choose to consult professional advertising agencies or you devote some time to learn about it. I always recommend the latter option as it's highly profitable for startups.

Why do we run adverts?

The primary reason for running adverts is to drive traffic to your business. We sometimes use the phrase "to generate leads"

The primary aim is not to make sales. The primary aim is to generate quality leads.

Please learn to do basic stuffs yourself.

Learn to run your business yourself. Attend seminars, workshops and conferences.

Am I saying it's a bad idea to outsource certain functions or duties? NO.

But at this stage, please learn the ropes.

You'll be better off for it.

If you have to outsource, stay within your budget and learn to negotiate effectively.

That way, you're saving cost and adding value to yourself.

Invest in CRM Tools that suit your budget and learn to use them.

Never forget, being in charge is not just about having people do everything for you, it's about knowing how everything works and what makes them work.

YOU CAN BE WHAT YOU WANT TO BE

What's stopping you from being what you want to be?

Even though this is not restricted to any endeavour, I am particular about your vision for being in business.

Do you know any bodybuilder whose story you could relate with? Did you know him when he had a lean body with no muscular form or comeliness?

Do you know how he got the ripped abs? The bulky biceps, triceps, the spears and the beastly body?

Do you know he had days where he felt unworthy? The days he couldn't keep up with the discipline of eating healthy?

The first few days into his training regime, he saw no growth. The only thing that grew was the pains he felt in his joint.

But he kept at it. He tried to ignore the pains and keep going, but he couldn't.

He cried. Premium tears.

He was on the verge of giving up, he saw the picture of the kind of body he was training to acquire. It kindled something on his inside and he went for it again.

He wasn't feeling like the body was forthcoming, but he showed up daily. He didn't quit.

He looked in the mirror daily to see just a sign that he was doing well, no muscles just yet. But..

He saw something. The mass of fat at strategic parts of his body had gone. Totally. This was all the motivation he needed.

Just as that guy kept showing up, keep showing up as well.

Don't give up. Keep at it.

Be persistent.

You'll pull through.
