6️⃣ Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is an aspect some entrepreneurs don't pay attention to at all, but this aspect affects every other aspect of your business. From the way you communicate, to the way you act and react, to people working with and for you, to the way you handle clients - your level of emotional intelligence affects the totality of your business.

Many businesses have folded up, many deals have been terminated because of lack of emotional intelligence.

For example, you are handling a transaction with someone who doesn't agree with your point of view on economic or politics or even values and because of this your disposition towards that person becomes hostile or even cold. This display of sentiment alone can cost you that transaction.

As an entrepreneur, you must develop your emotional intelligence because it is a really big deal in the market place.

4️⃣ Time management

If you are an entrepreneur like me, you will understand how we often think 24 hours is not enough because of all we have to do. We have goals that are time bound and sometimes we can't meet up the deadline. You know why?More often than not, it is because we don't manage our time well.

The skill of time management is a must for every business owner. This skill helps you identify;
• the things only you can do
• things you can do that others can do too
• things others should do.

In time management you will understand that there are things which cannot be delegated, things like charting the course for your business, being a husband or wife to your spouse, being a parent to your children - these things cannot be delegated.

You will also see things that you can do but others can also do it, so you delegate these thing. Many times we don't want to delegate because we believe we are the only ones that can do it well, how then do you give others the opportunity to grow?

There are courses and materials on time management you should go for, it will help you a lot in being an effective time manager.

Many busines fail because the owner is doing virtually everything, because he doesn't trust others enough to do it, he is too afraid to allow others to make mistakes and grow.

3. Hiring the wrong people

One important aspect of business many business owners don't pay attention to is who they hire. Who you hire is at the core of your business.

Hiring the right people has a massive effect on nearly every area of your business. One of the most obvious examples is sales: have you ever hired someone who is nonchalant about sales? He/she doesn't care as far as at the end of the month their money is paid.

Have you also hired someone enthusiastic about sales? Maybe because there's a bonus he/she wants to get?

You get the point, right?

It’s also astounding how many businesses fail due to inventory mismanagement. Hiring someone who is not skilled in management or who is not good at using modern software will definitely affect your business negatively.

I remember hiring a guy to manage my business out of pity but his lack of skill and character ran the business down and I had to shut it down.
