BREAKING : President Tinubu Requests N6.2trn Budget Increase from National Assembly

In a letter read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Bola Tinubu has sought to amend the 2024 Appropriation Act, requesting an additional N6.2 trillion. This revision would increase the budget from N28.7 trillion to N34.9 trillion.

The proposed amendment allocates N3.2 trillion for infrastructure development and N3 trillion for recurrent expenditure. This move aims to enhance the nation's infrastructure and bolster economic growth.

The initial 2024 budget was signed into law by President Tinubu on January 1. The requested increase marks a significant expansion of the country's fiscal plan.

FLASH: Court Nullifies Reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano

A Federal High Court in Kano has nullified the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. Presiding Judge Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman declared that all actions taken following Sanusi's controversial reinstatement are invalid. The court's decision came after it was established that the Kano State Government acted in violation of a court order to maintain the status quo pending the hearing of motions on notice.

The court's decision follows the actions of the Kano House of Assembly, which had repealed the law establishing additional emirate councils—Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya—under former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. The current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, had implemented the repealed law to dethrone Ado Bayero and reinstall Sanusi.
