OPERATION HADIN KAI AND US PARTNERS NEUTRALISE ISIS GLOBAL SECOND-IN-COMMAND ABU-BILAL AL-MINUKI AND SEVERAL TERRORIST COMMANDERS IN PRECISION AIR-LAND OPERATIONS AT METELE

In a landmark joint counter-terrorism operation of historic significance, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in close coordination with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), executed a meticulously planned and highly complex precision air-land operation that resulted in the neutralisation of Abu-Bilal Al-Minuki, the Islamic State's (ISIS) second-in-command globally and the most senior ISWAP commander operating in the Lake Chad Basin and Sahel region alongside several of his key lieutenants and multiple combatants. Al-Minuki, also known as Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Mainuki, was a US-designated Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT), designated by the US Department of State on 8 June 2023 under Executive Order 13224 for his role as a leading official within ISIS's General Directorate of Provinces, through which he channelled international funding and operational guidance to terror cells across the Sahel and the Lake Chad Islands in Northern Borno. His elimination represents the single most consequential counter-terrorism outcome in the North East Theatre since the inception of Operation HADIN KAI.

The operation, which commenced at approximately 0001 hours and concluded at about 0400 hours today, Saturday 16 May 2026, was the culmination of a protracted joint intelligence effort involving legal intercept operations and sustained reconnaissance that achieved full target development and fidelity. Following confirmed intelligence that Al-Minuki and his international terrorist cell had established a concealed and fortified enclave at Metele in Borno State within Sector 3 OPHK, the US partners in conjunction with OPHK conducted precision air - ground operations on the confirmed location while Special Forces were deployed to provide security and deny escape routes as well as to extract any of the Teams or air platforms in distress. The operation involved several air platforms in a synchronised air-land configuration that left the terrorists with no avenue of escape. The operation was executed following authorisation from the Military High Command, underscoring the highest levels of institutional coordination and strategic decision-making that underpinned the success of this mission.

The operation was executed with zero casualties or loss of assets, a testament to the exceptional planning, superior tactical ex*****on and the deepening synergy between Nigerian and US military forces in the global fight against terrorism. Abu-Bilal Al-Minuki has been confirmed neutralised alongside several of his lieutenants and multiple combatants. Battle Damage Assessment is ongoing, while troops are currently conducting aggressive follow-on exploitation operations to decimate identified splinter cells and prevent any attempt at reconstitution. The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, acknowledged the success of the operation and publicly commended the partnership with the Armed Forces of Nigeria. This decisive operation reaffirms OPHK's position as the foremost counter-terrorism formation in sub-Saharan Africa and sends an unequivocal message that terrorists will find neither sanctuary nor safety within the North East Theatre.

TROOPS RESCUE ABDUCTEES REUNITE FAMILIES, ARREST SUSPECTED TERRORIST ASSOCIATES IN NORTH EAST OPERATIONS

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under the ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY, have continued to record significant operational successes, including the rescue of abducted civilians, reunification of families, and the arrest of suspected terrorist collaborators across the theatre.

In a recent development, troops acting on credible intelligence following an air interdiction mission around the Mandara Mountains, successfully rescued six abducted women and children during a well-coordinated operation at a suspected terrorist crossing point near Amuda on 12 May 2026. The rescued victims-Aisha Musa (18), Aisha Mohammed (17), Fatima Yahaya (20), Saudatu Musa (4), Garba Mohammed (5), and Mohammed Yahaya (3 months) were among residents of Ngoshe community abducted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during an attack on the community on 3 March 2026. Following their rescue, the victims were administered immediate medical care at a military facility and subsequently reunited with their families through the community leader (Bulama) of Ngoshe, Mallam Adamu Gunda.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops of OPHK deployed at Tango 7 location in Konduga Local Government Area arrested a suspected terrorist associate, Hauwa Bulama (40), during an operational engagement. Items recovered from the suspect include detergent, washing soap, a torchlight, and food seasoning cubes. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect was allegedly en route to Gezuwa to link up with four of her children suspected to be members of the terrorist group. The suspect has been handed over to appropriate authorities for further action. Similarly, in a follow-up operation based on intelligence from ongoing investigations and communication intercepts, troops OPHK under Sector 2, supported by elements of Military Intelligence , arrested two additional suspects identified as Bakura (18) and Adiza (17) in Damaturu, Yobe State. The arrests are connected to an earlier operation involving the interception of a suspected ammunition courier, Ba’akaka Abubakar (alias Modogol), who was apprehended while finalising plans to supply ammunition to terrorists.

Preliminary findings revealed that Adiza had been tasked to collect ammunition from the earlier suspect for onward delivery to a terrorist commander. The suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the said terrorist commander and recover the ammunition intended for delivery. The Joint Task Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to intensifying ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, rescuing abducted civilians, and restoring lasting peace and security across the North East region. The Military High Command commends the troops for their utmost professionalism and resilience, urging them to sustain the current operational tempo.

NIGERIAN ARMY DEEPENS MODERN WARFARE STRATEGY WITH DRONE INTEGRATION AND COMBAT AVIATION TRAINING

The Nigerian Army is taking decisive steps toward modernising its operational capabilities with the planned integration of drone warfare and combat aviation into army operations and training.

The development, highlighted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during the Nigerian Army Combat Arms Training Week held in Jaji-Kaduna, reflects the evolving nature of contemporary warfare where intelligence, surveillance, precision strikes, and rapid response capabilities are becoming increasingly vital in counterterrorism and internal security operations.

The move to incorporate drone warfare into Nigerian Army operations is expected to significantly enhance intelligence gathering, reconnaissance missions, target tracking, and operational efficiency across various theatres of operation, particularly in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other asymmetric threats.

The initiative also signals increased investment in specialised training for troops, ensuring that personnel are equipped with the technical skills required to operate advanced battlefield technologies effectively.

As Nigeria continues to confront evolving security threats, the adoption of modern warfare technologies by Nigerian Army represents a significant step toward building a more agile, intelligence-driven, and combat-ready military force capable of responding to present and future challenges.

Incitement or Advocacy?

I may not be so knowledgeable in the Nigerian Army’s disciplinary procedures or their justice administration system.

However, I know that they are a regimented organization, where discipline is the watchword, and the erosion of which leaves us with men that cannot be ordered into battle.

The profession is a tough one and it takes the strong, willing, and malleable citizens to fit in.

The operational pressure is enormous and cannot be withstood by the fainthearted.

It takes courage to go into where you know you may not come out.

Thus, the unprepared who joined the military as a means employment cannot survive the rigours, and would resort to lies, blackmail and self-help as way of escape, rather than honourably leave.

As an observer, I see something wrong with soldiers abandoning laid down procedures of how to channel grievances, and resorting to social media influencers. As a nation, we shouldn’t take that bait.

It would destroy us. We need a strong, disciplined and professional Army.

Let us not create a monster that would turn out to hunt us.

The soldiers running to social media from my little findings are the few disgruntled ones who do not want to be deployed to frontlines, hence look for ways to escape through willing social media influencers/content creators.

Therefore, for the few that cannot withstand the pressures of the military profession, my advice to them is, LEAVE! Do not destroy the institution. Stop playing to the gallery.

And for the so-called activists and pseudo-politicians who want victory through means other than the ballot, please leave the military alone.

At this juncture, I want to advise the Nigerian youths, please put on your thinking caps.

Do not come out to protest against what doesn’t make sense.

Face your studies, businesses and other endeavours.

No one can advocate for the military. Do not allow social media influencers paid by politicians to infiltrate our military.

Allow them to fight for us. Reject the call for protest against men and women who lay down their lives for us.

Do not demoralize them.

I stand with the Nigerian Army!

Let us be wise.

TROOPS RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS, FOIL TERRORIST LOGISTICS MOVEMENT IN KOGI STATE

Troops of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have recorded significant operational successes in Kogi State, rescuing kidnapped victims and foiling a terrorist logistics movement in separate but coordinated operations conducted on 6 May 2026.

In a major breakthrough under Operation TIGER PAW II, troops successfully rescued the remaining kidnapped victims from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage following sustained search and rescue efforts. Acting on credible intelligence and maintaining persistent operational pressure, troops of the Brigade’s Blocking Force intercepted and recovered the victims within the Agbaja Forest general area in Lokoja Local Government Area.

The victims were promptly evacuated to the 12 Brigade Medical Centre where they received immediate medical attention and first aid. All victims are reported to be in stable condition.

In a related development on the same day, troops acting on credible intelligence on the activities of an arms and ammunition syndicate intercepted and apprehended a suspected terrorist ammunition courier along road Obajana–Lokoja in Lokoja Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Yahaya Umar, was found in possession of 500 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition concealed inside a bag of maize in an attempt to evade detection.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a key logistics courier involved in the movement of arms and ammunition for terrorists across states within the North Central region. Further interrogation indicated that the ammunition was handed over to him at Obajana Forest and was being transported to Dikko Junction in Suleja, Niger State, for delivery to a yet-to-be-identified terrorist.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation to aid ongoing operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network and apprehending other members of the syndicate.

These coordinated successes underscore the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while sustaining aggressive operations against terrorists and their collaborators. Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts.

OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS SUSTAIN OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS UNDER DESERT SANITY V, CRUSHING TERRORIST CELLS AND ENCLAVES IN THE TIMBUKTU AND BULABULIN FOREST AREAS

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have continued to sustain offensive pressure against terrorist elements, under Operation DESERT SANITY V, recording significant operational gains in 2 separate but coordinated engagements involving troops of Sector 2 in the Azir Bridge (Timbuktu axis) and Bulabulin Forest areas in close coordination with the Air Component Command of OPHK.

On the Bulabulin Forest axis, troops of Sector 2 in conjunction with elements of Sector 2 Stabilisation Force Brigade and the Civilian Joint Task Force cleared terrorist enclaves at Mar, Subdu, Yaro Lawanti and Yaro Shuwari as well as other areas contiguous to the Bulabulin Forest and the Kamadogu Yobe stretch. During the operation, supported by assault air platforms from the Air Component Command, the troops made contact at Malam Shiri Village and engaged the terrorists in a well-coordinated and tactical flanking manoeuvre, neutralising 11 terrorists and forcing others to flee with varying degrees of injuries. All life support structures were subsequently destroyed and exploitation of the area led to the recovery of 9 AK-47 rifles, 3 PKT anti aircraft automatic machine guns, 5 motorcycles, assorted ammunition, and several materials used for Improvised Explosive Devices, thereby significantly disrupting the terrorist logistics and operational capability within the axis.

Similarly, at the Timbuktu axis along the Wajiroko Sabongari corridor, troops had further engagements with the terrorists with air support from the Air Component Command of OPHK. The troops with resilience and tactical discipline, maintained positions and decisively dealt with the terrorists. Subsequent exploitation revealed 7 neutralised terrorists, with additional blood trails and body parts indicating significantly higher enemy casualties during the assault. Recovered items include AK-47 rifles, RPG tubes, a large cache of ammunition, bandoliers, and communication equipment.

The Air Component Command of OPHK played a very crucial and decisive role in both engagements, providing persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) that enabled accurate target acquisition and real-time situational awareness for ground troops coordinated fire. Precision air interdiction strikes were subsequently conducted by the NAF aircrafts on confirmed terrorist positions and fleeing elements, further decimating scores of the insurgents and ensuring the success of a well synchronised air–land offensive that overwhelmed the adversary.

Troops, in conjunction with volunteer forces, are currently conducting aggressive follow-up exploitation operations along the Forfor, Multe, and Wajiroko axes to consolidate gains, pursue fleeing terrorists, and prevent any attempt at regrouping. These successful engagements further reinforce OPHK’s growing operational effectiveness and sustained dominance across the Theatre.
