⚖️ Do you know the legal notice period for ending employment in Nigeria?
Under the Nigeria Labour Act (Section 11), both employers and employees must give notice before ending a contract — or pay salary in lieu of notice.
Here’s what the law says:
🗓️ Less than 3 months → 1 day notice
🗓️ 3 months – under 2 years → 1 week notice
🗓️ 2 years – under 5 years → 2 weeks notice
🗓️ 5 years and above → 1 month notice
💡 Remember:
• This is the minimum legal standard.
• Contracts can provide longer notice periods, but never shorter.
• Salary in lieu must equal the full pay for that period.
✨ Knowledge protects both employers and employees. Stay compliant, stay fair.
