www.sixthsenseleadership.com

Throughout your journey to wealth, you will have to balance between the vision of the end and the reality of the present. Don’t be in hurry to ‘arrive’ and don’t be too slow to make your mark.

The link between where you are and where you want to be is a good track record.

Here is what I mean: Consider that you are aiming to become an authority in a field where you can charge a premium price of around $100,000 or even $1,000,000 for a particular project.

One of the foremost reasons why people sulk at their jobs is a lack of passion.

This is because we often do not regard our work as sacred as we reckon our spousal relationships to be.

Whereas spousal relationships are chosen on the basis of love and purpose, most people choose their jobs primarily for survival, especially in developing countries where basic needs are yet to be met.

BE MORE, DO MORE, ACHIEVE MORE!

Remember when Jesus said, “Unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God”?

He used that statement to strike home the fact that who you become determines what you see; what you see determines how you respond to life, and how you respond determines the results you get.

No wonder, Jesus Himself turned water to wine and fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fishes. He was not operating at the normal frequency of the masses. He had grown to such a level that He could perceive possibilities where others saw an impasse.

Here’s the big catch: you can make the most out of the least if you re-invent yourself to see the best in the worst.

This is at the heart of the Sixth Sense approach: becoming (growth), seeing (vision), doing (action) and achieving (results).

Timing Kills the Deal

One definition of wisdom is to do the right thing at the right time to get the right results. This principle of wisdom applies in greatly when bargaining. The right timing puts you in a position of power. In fact, unless you like to lose, it is better not to engage until you are in the position of power. There is a reason Jesus said, "Tarry ye ..."

When Jakes bargained with Esau, it was well-timed to favour his interest. He had always had his eyes set on the birthright but he did not mention anything about it before then. He waited until he knew that Esau was vulnerable enough to stake everything. Guess what? It worked!

When he negotiated with Lab, Jakes himself was vulnerable. His lack of self-regulation made him lose his sense of timing and ended up as the victim of a poorly negotiated contract.

Before he called for the second episode with Lab, Jakes took his time to cultivate high-demand skills which made him resourceful, so he knew that he had nothing to lose since he could now create wealth anywhere he found himself. He also built a track record which Lab could not overlook since many other business owners would be ready to poach him at the slightest friction.

So, when Jakes invited Lab to the negotiation table, he was on the more powerful side. Lab was willing to do everything to keep him. “Name your price,” he said. And Jakes got what he wanted. Right timing, right results. Q.E.D.

Many years later, while on his deathbed, Jakes blessed his son Issachar thus: _“Issachar is a strong donkey, lying down between two burdens; he saw that rest was good, and that the land was pleasant; he bowed his shoulder to bear a burden, and became a band of slaves.”_ This is the exact strategy that Jakes used to win in his bargain with Lab: he envisioned prosperity, positioned himself for it through service and seized it through right timing.

Fast-forward to centuries down the line and it was written of the tribe of Issachar that they had an uncommon sense of timing with which they preserved and prospered the entire nation of Israel.

What is Your Real Net Worth now?

In my teenage years, I used to manage my family’s grocery store.

We had a neighbour who sold cars. This man was usually gentle until he sold a car. Once he received notification of payment via a bank alert, he would come to our store and do “authority shopping.”

_“Give me five bags of rice! Pack 3 bags of Semovita for me! How much is your spaghetti? Put two cartons into my boot!”_

Money made him feel powerful because to him, “money answereth all things.” But when the money was all gone, he became sober again and remembered how to play with children.

Now, I have a humorous way of measuring people’s net worth. It is the amount of money that you can manage with care and prudence.

Remember the last time you got a bank alarm? I mean when a huge sum entered into your bank account like Baba motor?

Perhaps, you kept spending freely until you got to a certain amount and became cautious. For some, it could be N500,000. For some others, it could be N50,000. For many people, it is less than N5,000!

If you think that making money is enough to make you rich, you are poor indeed!
