Dealing with an employee who consistently makes excuses can be a challenging task for any organization.
At Prime HR Consulting, we understand the importance of fostering accountability while maintaining a positive work environment.
Here’s how to start

Firstly, open communication is key. Initiate a private conversation to understand the underlying reasons for the excuses. It might reveal genuine challenges that need addressing.

Set clear expectations and deadlines.
Clearly outline responsibilities and goals to provide a foundation for performance assessment.
This minimizes room for excuses and ensures mutual understanding.

Offer support and resources. Sometimes, excuses arise from inadequate tools or training. Provide the necessary assistance to help employees meet expectations.
Implement a performance improvement plan.

If excuses persist, establish a plan with specific milestones.
Regular check-ins will hold the employee accountable and provide opportunities for growth.

Managing an employee who habitually makes excuses demands a balanced approach of understanding, clear communication, and support.
At Prime HR Consulting, with our HR expertise, we can aid your organization in fostering accountability and transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.

Being a full time footballer is a hard and demanding enough profession, same as being a doctor, our wonder woman this Wednesday is both.
Introducing the effervescent Michelle Alozie

A multi-talented high-achiever with a degree in microbiology from Yale.
Alozie spends her mornings causing problems for defenders at the training ground and her evenings seeking global solutions as a cancer research technician.

The Nigerian-American became an inspiration to girls at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
As Alozie played and ran for Nigeria’s Super Falcons.

Michelle Chinwendu Alozie was born on April 28, 1997, in Apple Valley, California, US. Her parents — Chioma and Godwin Alozie — are natives of Owerri city, Imo state, but they moved overseas for better opportunities.
Alozie says she was born with “Nigerian grit” and the hard work of her Igbo lineage.

She was an all-rounder student who broke school records in the 100m and 200m dashes and garnered academic distinctions.
“I just knew that, regardless of where I go, as long as I believe in myself, as long as I put in the work to differentiate myself in whatever situation or environment that I’m in, then things will happen,” says Alozie

Alexandra Stevens the doctor who oversees Alozie at the hospital says, “Michelle has exactly what I look for in everybody I want to work with — she has fire,”.
“She has the desire to make a difference in the world, to use her talents and strengths to the best of her ability, and I love that. It’s what moves the field of pediatric oncology forward.”

Alozie has repeatedly maintained that she hopes to pursue a career as a doctor when her playing days are entirely behind her.

You might think your job isn’t currently at risk. But with tens of thousands of employees from scores of employers having lost their jobs since the beginning of the year, it’s well worth asking two questions:
Am I next? And if I might be, what should I do to prepare?

Update your branding materials.

Just as it’s important to maintain your health by getting periodic check-ups, you should also update your resume and LinkedIn profile regularly.
It’s a prudent best practice to take care of these updates before you need to.
Assess your résumé and LinkedIn profile to make sure they reflect the new skills you’ve acquired and projects you’ve tackled.

Develop a list of what you value most.

You want to proactively identify what you’re ideally looking for from an employer.
Don’t wait until you’ve been laid off and are applying for jobs to ask yourself questions like:
Do you need scheduling flexibility to make it to coach your child’s football team?
Are you looking for a culture that promotes from within?
Do you value finding meaning in the work you do?

Get your finances in order.

Some organizations provide severance payouts to employees impacted by downsizing, but not all.
To be financially ready, you don’t necessarily need to save a substantial amount of money from each paycheck — start small and increase your savings rate occasionally.
For your emergency fund, consider investing the money in a high-yield savings account, which offers a significantly higher interest rate or annual percentage yield than a traditional savings account but is less volatile than investing in the stock market.

Getting laid off can be a traumatic event, but a little bit of preparation can go a long way.
The more prepared you are, the less impactful the layoff will be on your mental health and finances — and the easier it will be to find a new job.

Stepping into a leadership role is a significant achievement, but it comes with a unique set of challenges.
New leaders must tread carefully to ensure a successful transition.

First, resist the urge to micromanage; trust your team's abilities.
Avoid making abrupt changes, as this can disrupt morale and processes.

Remember, leadership isn't about seeking constant praise; avoid neglecting constructive feedback.
Sidestep favoritism and ensure fairness among team members.

Lastly, don't shy away from seeking guidance.
Effective leaders acknowledge their learning curve and actively seek mentorship.

By steering clear of these pitfalls, new leaders can pave the way for a harmonious and productive journey ahead.

When Should You Take a Problem to HR
Ask yourself these three questions before escalating an issue

Working in a toxic environment can rapidly erode your feelings about your job — and deciding whether to speak up about the toxicity can be downright intimidating. When is it time to go to HR? And how can you prepare yourself for the conversation? Swipe for three questions to ask yourself before you officially report an incident.

Have I documented what happened?
If you plan to report an incident to HR, you will need detailed records to clearly outline your claims. Be sure to document the following: ·What was said or done ·The date and time of the incident ·If there were any witnesses

What's my objective?
Define a specific goal before communicating with HR. For example, your colleague might need professional development training to address their behavior. Or, if there's an ongoing performance issue, HR may work with their manager to create a performance improvement plan (PIP).

Is what I'm experiencing illegal?
HR departments have a responsibility to ensure that companies adhere to employment laws and regulations.
An employer also has a legal obligation to investigate any good-faith complaint of harassment, discrimination based on race, s*x, religion, disability, or other protected status or retaliation for reporting an issue.
