Nigeria is sending a clearer message about the kind of foreign investment it wants to attract.
The Federal Government is encouraging Chinese and other international investors to move beyond raw material extraction and invest in factories, processing plants, and manufacturing operations within Nigeria.
The emphasis on local production and value addition is significant. It reflects a broader ambition to retain more economic value within the country, strengthen domestic industries, and create jobs.
For international companies, it also raises an important question: could Nigeria be more than a market or source of raw materials - and become part of a regional manufacturing and processing strategy?
