Conjugation: le passé composé
Many of The French Tutorial users sent me messages asking to explain the "passé composé" (perfect).
The passé composé is one of those tenses rather difficult to learn for a foreigner... Why? Because again, you'll have to learn by heart a lot of things.
Anyway, you are reading this and you will see by yourself in a few minutes ;-)
How it works
The main thing to remember is this construction:
Subject avoir
or être
in the present Past participle
Vous avez mangé tôt.
J' ai terminé mon travail à 14:00.
Je suis parti à la piscine.
Nous sommes allés en vacances à Royan.

Past participle agreement
OK, so first you have to learn by heart which verbs are using être and which others are using avoir but ... That's not all!
Remember also that the past participle agrees with the subject when the auxiliary is être.
Let's conjugate rester (to stay) to illustrate this rule.
rester
masculine subject rester
feminine subject to stay
je suis resté je suis restée I have stayed
or
I stayed
tu es resté tu es restée you have stayed
or
you stayed
il est resté elle est restée he/she has stayed
or
he/she stayed
nous sommes restés nous sommes restées we have stayed
or
we stayed
vous êtes restés vous êtes restées you have stayed
or
you stayed
ils sont restés elles sont restées they have stayed
or
they stayed
Don't make the past participle agree with the subject when using avoir as an auxiliary. Agreement with the direct object
This rule is one of the most difficult in French (even French people have trouble with it!).
The past participle agrees with the direct object when it is located before avoir auxiliary.
Subject Direct Object
before avoir avoir
in the present Past participle
Nous les avons envoyés hier.
Je l' (=la) ai apprise par coeur.
Some examples:
J'ai envoyé les lettres hier. Je les ai envoyées hier.
I sent the letters yesterday. I sent them yesterday.
Pierre a pris la voiture pour aller au ski. Pierre l'a prise.
Pierre took the car to go skiing. He took it.
Elle a vérifié les résultats trois fois. Elle les a vérifiés trois fois.
She checked the results three times. She checked them three times.

Examples
Here are a few more examples:
Elle a commencé à travailler chez Renault
She has begun to work at Renault's.
Je suis rentré ce matin.
I came back this morning.
Les gens n'ont pas compris.
People did not understand.
Nous avons appris la leçon.
We have learnt the lesson.
Ils ont commencé la réunion sans nous.
They have started the meeting without us.
être and avoir at perfect
être (to be), avoir (to have) in the perfect tense follow the same rules as others:
être
English French
I have been j'ai été
you have been tu as été
he/she has been il/elle a été
we have been nous avons été
you have been vous avez été
they have been ils ont été

Example
J'ai été surprise de te revoir.
I've been surprised to see you again.
avoir
English French
I have had J'ai eu
you have had tu as eu
he/she has had il/elle a eu
we have had nous avons eu
you have had vous avez eu
they have had ils/elles ont eu
Example
Ils ont eu des problèmes.
They've had some troubles.

Sometimes when you have outgrown the situations in your life, and you’re not aware, or don’t have the courage to move on ~ life will move on you. You may have been told that your company is going in another direction. You knew it was coming and you didn’t prepare yourself. Now you are angry and feel you were wronged. You have to move on.

Your relationship of many years may have ended and you were devastated, confused and shocked. You’re in pain; feel disillusioned; full of despair. However, it’s time to move on. Your mind might be reeling. Your heart probably feels like it’s been ripped out and handed to you on a platter. As hard as it will be, you must shake it off and move on. Moving on doesn’t mean that you give up. Moving on means that no job, relationship, house, or any other thing is worth your sanity. Don’t focus on the things that you’ve lost. Allow the Master, our Maker ELOHIM breath a new life of Success and prosperity into you and your life will change forever. You can still get these back and much more. Focus your Saviour. Get still. Go within. Allow him to take control of your situation .Tap into your greatness of our Lord. You will find a better solution and Peace of mind. u deserve it. remember the Lord is in Control.
