‎ADVERSE EFFECT OF EXTREMELY TALL HIP ROOF ON A BUILDING.
‎
‎1. Higher wind loads – A tall, steep roof presents greater exposure to wind, increasing uplift and lateral forces on the roof structure and its connections.
‎
‎2. Greater structural demands – The longer rafters/trusses and increased roof height can require larger structural members, stronger connections, and more substantial foundations.
‎
‎3. Higher construction cost – More roofing materials, framing, scaffolding, bracing, and labor are generally required.
‎More difficult maintenance – Cleaning gutters, repairing roofing materials, replacing damaged components, and accessing the roof become more hazardous and expensive.
‎
‎3. Increased risk of instability – If the roof is inadequately braced, its greater height and steepness can make it more susceptible to deformation or failure under wind and other loads.
‎
‎4. Greater material use and building weight – A very tall roof can increase the dead load carried by the walls and foundations.
‎
‎5. Reduced usable space – Depending on the design, the steep roof may create awkward attic spaces with limited practical floor area.
‎
‎6. Potential drainage problems – Although steep roofs generally shed water well, poorly designed valleys, gutters, and downpipes can create concentrated runoff and leakage problems.
‎
‎7. Aesthetic and planning concerns – An excessively tall roof can make the building look disproportionate and may conflict with surrounding buildings or local height restrictions.
‎
‎8. Thermal and ventilation challenges – A large roof volume requires careful insulation and ventilation design; otherwise, heat buildup, condensation, and higher cooling requirements can occur.
‎
‎Conclusively, an extremely tall hip roof can be structurally and economically inefficient if its height is excessive. A suitable roof pitch should balance rainwater drainage, wind resistance, structural stability, usable space, appearance, and cost.
